The one thing that keeps these mainstream media companies, owned by publicly traded parent companies, afloat to pay salary to staff (and appearance fees for their shill contributors/analysts) is by a legitimate revenue stream. On TV that comes from advertising buys based on expected viewership.

If network bosses care for one thing beyond appeasing their favorite Beltway buddies when they can, it’s making money and satisfying shareholders.

If there’s ultimately a change in the White House there will not be Trump to talk about daily... while keeping up with the “non-controversy nothing burgers” game, no doubt there will be further folding and/or consolidation of media sources.
