Interesting how all these cuts you recommend are Bobby songs. Are you a Bobby fan? Just curious :)

Thanks for the links, I will certainly check them out.

Peace!

im a fan of the grateful dead and half step is a jerry tune

I know Mississipi Half Step is a Jerry tune. A damn fine one, at that. I love the lyrics, and the music, and I love the outro jam, Across the Rio-grandeeeeee-o :)

You linked Stuck inside of Mobile, I think that's what I was referencing. No biggie

And no, I haven't been to Sweetwater. I guess Bobby's a Mason. Hey, nobody who wears short-shorts like him can be perfect, right?

I frickin LOVE Built to Last. It wasn't one of their most popular songs, not by a long shot, but I love the chords and the lyrics. That's one of those songs which makes me cry, it really does. Even just thinking about that song makes me cry sometimes.

As for sobriety? Yeah right! I haven't been "sober" since I was 17. Mostly beer these days, because I moved somewhere where I can't find weed anymore :( I need to get a job with young people so I can find the herb, haha

But do I have a pipe? Actually yes, I smoke tobacco out of a glass weed pipe. Saves me a ton of money, and I went from smoking 4 packs of cigarettes a day to now the equivalent of 40 cents a day. I pack little bowls, take a hit, hold it inside, and then I'm good to go.

I miss the ganja, but right now I'm just a beer drinker. Sucks but what can I do?

Thanks for your comments, and the links

This.... is entirely too cool.

Bobby Weir, whatever people want to say about him, was a surprisingly subtle and super rhythm guitar player. He knew when to hold back, and knew when to thicken the stew.

For my money, part of what makes those early Dark Stars (68-69) so good was Bobby's playing. Jazz-like, mercurial...

And my favorite stuff he did on guitar was on the China Cat > Rider bridge portion, when it was transitioning into I Know You Rider. So, so, so (sooooo!) good. Wowza

I reserve judgement on his slide guitar playing in the 80's, because, whatever. At least he tried :)

Thanks for that link, Dogfood. I've never seen/heard that before

Although not as rad as the grateful dead but I got to see the Jerry Gracia band live in Milwaukee, WI when I was like 5 or 6 years old. Not many people my age can say they've seen Jerry Gracia play live.
So, gold star for me! Lol
Cool vid BTW!

Re: Grateful Dead 10-16-1977
I went to two shows in 1989; gave it a shot without being familiar with their music hardly at all. I felt so alienated. Everyone had the same style of dress and dance and way of talking and it wasn't me. I found the music boring and awful.

I have faint memories. It was an outdoor show. It was an amphitheater. We were on a hill side sitting in the grass. And yes there was a lot of people dancing around, most of which I assume were either high as a kite or trippin or both lol. My mom and step dad bought me a few of those glow tubes. Not sticks. They're the ones you can make a necklace and such. As a kid I dubbed them "ziggy zacks" for some reason lol. So I was running around waving those around and my mom told me later on in life that I was "tripping" some of the other concert goers out lol they were digging it. Although I wasn't really old enough to enjoy the music, it was a fun time and an awesome atmosphere and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Nothing like church lol

For what it's worth. I seem to recall the deadheads I knew there were especially happy about the second show.

Re: Grateful Dead 10-16-1977
jerry, contsanten and pigpen were probably the only truly down to earth people in that band. maybe add keith and donna too. i'm a drummer and developed a good part of my style by combining their styles. i met both of them and unfortunately there were no highlights, more like let downs.

pretending jerry was a cia asset, his great friend wrote about not selling your soul, i don't think jerry ever did that.
