if you have kids then....

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79496010

Yup. Give the kids meat. Adults can do without much for awhile. Not kids.

For adults just go for one or two meals a day. That will cut down on the bills and you can eat meat.

Do not over eat. If you are above the recommended weight then lose it. Voila. More money for meat.

I have to force and remind myself to cook meat a few times a week, it is not that I do not like it I am just happy with non meat meals and it is less work than meat, having to sanitize everything, all the prep and clean up puts me off touching store bought meat. With all the yummy stuff I make with eggs, milk, cheese, beans, potatoes, legumes, breads, and veggies I do not miss meat. I make lots of varied versions, combinations, sauces and dips, it never gets old.

Eat and use Coconut Oil - raw unfiltered.. it is fat and will give you energy...

Cook eggs in it.. low and medium heat.

Put 1 tsp - tbs in your coffee...you will never taste it.
Some just let a tsp dissolve in their mouth... read about it's benefits.

Cut out all WHEAT ... then grains..

Wheat spikes the blood sugar.. which drops and causes hunger..

I lost 25 lbs with no hunger a year ago doing this.. I never get hungry...

Wheat causes Hunger, Inflammation and Diabetics.

PREbiotics are the most important supplement food you can add.. your digestion is everything.

Eat fatty meats for energy..

I make what I call quarantine burritos (made with limited items in the fridge). Heat a can of Wolf chili, no beans. Make scrambled eggs with green onions and cheddar cheese. Spread warm chili on soft flour tortilla. Add scrambled eggs. Make into a burrito. Good for breakfast. A can of chili can be used for 6 burritos. Improvise.

Buy in BULK ..calculate the per pound .. ounce cost...

Buy 1 Gallon of Coconut Oil.. share the cost with friends.. rejar into pints or quarts..

Much cheaper this way.

Shop at farmers homes... grow chickens..

Avoid Processed Foods as much as possible..

PS: Wheat is in everything.. read ingredients.. avoid those products.

Help a Gardener or Farmer.. and share in the produce. Few people have enough sense to do this.. have your older kids help..

Plant Fruit trees.. grow blackberry, blueberry vines.. things that reproduce every year..

I have Satsuma, Orange, Peach, Banana trees..

Grow OKRA in summer.. big producer..

Tuna casserole is fairly inexpensive especially if you use store brand products.

A couple of packages of top ramen with some leftover veggies, meats or some hard boiled egg. You can pretty much add all kinds of stuff to "dress it up".

Frijoles Charros is a great recipe for beans and you can adjust the heat by adjusting the spice. Spoon it over rice to stretch it or eat with tortillas. (Homemade tortillas are super cheap to make and soooo much better than store bought!)

Lentil soup is another meal idea.

Buy whole chickens instead of pieces and learn to cut them up. That can save huge amounts of money and you can save the back portions and use those to make chicken noodle soup or stock or chicken and dumplings or whatever.

Shop meat that is marked down because it's close to the sell by date. Make sure you look carefully and reject anything that doesn't look or smell right.

If you don't already cook from scratch, learn if you can. There are a ton of sites online dedicated to budget friendly recipes. Besides it's cheaper, better for you and you can always adjust the recipe to suit your family's preferences.

Check out the sales especially at your local "cheap" stores. Not sure where you are but I love Aldi's, Save-A-Lot and Walmart grocery. They have great sales and your money will go so much further.

Best of luck and hopefully things will get better

Just make what you normally make but take the meat out. Add more veggies or noodles if you want.

Like spagetti & meatablls, just have spagetti with sauce.

Lasagne? use stewed tomatoes and/or zuchini and/or mushrooms for the meat.

Soup? Chili? Forget the meat. Add red beand, kidney beans, black beans....

You may want to cut back on other things before cutting back on meat. Especially for growing kids. Vegans and vegetarians have to take a lot of supplements to keep them going. Even then they can get sick from no animal protein. And too many carbs for adults or inactive children is not a good thing.

Put meat first in your budget. Everything else gets cut back. Get rid of tv. Anything extra. Without your health nothing matters.

Absolutely untrue and very ignorant.

I haven't eaten any meat since 1992 and no animal products whatsoever since 1997. I'm in the top 98 percentile of health. If you eat whole foods, a plant based diet is the healthiest way to eat.

Animal agriculture is devastating to the environment, as well as horrific for the animals. When I did my masters years ago studying this topic, the profs said it's a matter of when, not if, a meat tax is coming.

It's good to transition away from eating animals now.

Re: Cooking meals with LITTLE TO NO MEAT for a family, need your ideas!
We are a family of five. When the virus was in full swing and meat was hard to come by and there were limits, I would buy a $10 family pack of chicken breasts from Walmart. It came with 6 big breasts in it I would crock pot it with a can of chicken broth until I could shred it and then make at least four meals from it...chicken casseroles, chicken burritoes, chicken soup and even add some to spaghetti sauce.

Another cheap meal is to add a can of chili con carne to boxed mac n cheese for chili mac.

Don't forget canned tuna for tuna casserole.

Re: Cooking meals with LITTLE TO NO MEAT for a family, need your ideas!
Ok so our grocery budget has been cut in half, and prices keep going up.

I need ideas and recipes for making meat stretch for a family.

We already do soups, stews and chili. Great budget meals!

I've recently added fried rice to the meal rotation, fantastic way to make a lot of food with very little. Plus my kids love it.

You can also stretch a 1lb package of Italian sausage into several meals: take half and mix into pasta sauce for spaghetti, freeze the other half to use for homemade pizza.

Any other ideas from you good folks would be sincerely appreciated!

I would say that you go the the Meat department at your local grocery store and tell them to cut you a few bone ins.

Use one for every 2.5 days

Crock pot cooking is the cheapest way to go.

Veggies and broth is good form of nutrients for your family.

Lots of veggies

Bake your own bread.

Drink lots of water

Get Vitamins too. They help alot

Hope you find a happy balance with your family.

When you do buy ground beef, buy 80/20 more fat = tastier grub.

Homemade red beans and rice. I grew up on ham hocks and beans, add some sweet corn bread.....oh baby!
Mississippi pot roast (our favorite way to roast beast). Great with venison or elk also.

Rolled oats (not the instant kind) can be used for breakfast with fresh or canned fruit or jam or made savory with butter, salt, pepper and herbs and sauteed vegetabals etc.

Very tasty and filling and cheap too.

taglitelle alla bolognese.

I think it might be cheap.

Its real. Its a basic dish so its obvious as to it being real.

[link to www.ginodacampo.com (secure)]

Just follow recipe.

I use beef dripping as its cheaper than olive oil but you still use olive oil and butter for pasta.

Nearly 2 cloves of garlic.

2 tablepspoons + of rosemary when you sweat veg and garlic.

I use 100 ml red wine.

Dont even measeure milk just add to wine like described.

Properly fry beef and pork ( seperate )

Broil if it is lean and or add more beef dripping.

Add a bay leaf.

Simmer for 3 hours with a lid on.

All ingredients can be frozen.

Mainly celery. Red wine. Rosemary.

Can also be reheated from semi frozen. Just reheat on a hob stove.

Use dried pasta also.
