haha I used to live in Sioux falls South Dakota and way back in the late 1980s it was named America's number one city. what happened then was an influx of people from other areas of the country and they would spend a few years there and then move away because of all the snow in the freezing tundra.

Many decades ago when someone new moved into the neighborhood it sometimes motivated the neighbors to greet the new member of the community with a knock on the door and welcome the new homeowner with some baked goods.

It might be worth it to try and restart that quaint custom again.

Bring them a cake in the shape of the USA topped with red icing or a Bundt cake with a warning message baked in that lets them know what's expected of them. How about a dozen of Trump cupcakes with yellow icing laid on in the shape of the presidents hairdo along with a MAGA hat for each member of the new family.

Their reaction to the offerings will let you know if they're friend or foe.

Perhaps you're proving your ignorance... If you've lived in such a place for any length of time you can see the effects of the Californians taking over. And sadly I am originally a Californian myself. I just got the memo 25yrs earlier that everyone else.

Low interest rates are one thing, but people buying houses much higher than their income level can accommodate only acts to inflate our taxes.

25yrs ago I paid $35k for a 5 acre lot, today that same lot is going for around $280k. My taxes have gone up every year, and people continue to pour into the area.

At some point, even with my house paid off I will be paying just as much as my mortgage in taxes!

Thing is people from large cities have anonymity to be jerks on the road and do little selfish things because they don't know their neighbors. They have lived a different culture of not making eye contact or talking with people and don't view people as their equal.


It's like hey, take a deep breath, we really don't have traffic so no need to be in such a rush. When the snow flies you will wish you got over your tailgating issues. That lady checking out your groceries very well may end up somehow related to your circle of friends so be friendly and engaged with everyone.

I live in Montana and we are overrun with people from CA and WA who are making offers on any residential property that hits the market. It is October and every 20th vehicle on the road has a CA or WA license plate.

I live 40 miles from Portland, OR. We went to Austin,TX this last weekend for a friend's birthday, and it is just another Portland, OR but hotter and more humid.

Remember when traffic in CDA was only in the summer months, I used to dread July when all the damn tourists would arrive. Now it seems to be non stop traffic, even in the winter. Really sucks.
