Why would anyone use the word "murder" to describe animal behavior? Murder is an unlawful killing, no legit scientist/researcher would ever use that term.

Murder describes the pain. They have a vicious sting. Read the pinned thread on how bad the pain of the sting is. One of the worlds most painful stings.

Some animals do kill just for the thrill of killing, not for food or territory. It is often called murderous behavior, rampage. You get bad murderous vicious crazy animals at times that have to be put down, it does not mean all of that kind are bad, just a bad apple.

I hope they can take them out before they spread any further . they are very bad news for honey bee's .

That is my worry too.

Does anyone know how long they can survive in this climate? It gets cold in Blaine. The one that got me on the other north side of the state lived in below freezing weather in the car for almost 2 months. I do not know how long it had been living in the water pipe outdoors at the hardware store before It came home with me.

Its getting too cold for bees and hornets. Spring 2021 though....

Thank you for the videos. I sure hope they know what they are doing and do not get stung and wear protective gear. Keep us updated on the eradication tomorrow. I am so proud they were able to put on tracking devices and found the nest. A good reminder for people to keep them alive and report it if you find one, so they can track it back to the nest.

There is an amount of cold it can take but that area in the PNW doesn't get it long enough.

Does it build nests only in trees ? that would be a good thing. If they also build ground nests, that would be a much better chance of surviving winter

I live in the next county. Not good news.

When I was a kid I have been stung by bees , wasps, hornets and giant black ants . They are around where I lived . The worst is the ground hornets . A few of them can kill an adult . Sometimes you walk in the jungle and accidently kick their nest on the ground . That is a death wish . Too bad .

I stepped on a paper wasp next in some tall grass when I was a kid and got about 10 stings.

It really wiped me out and I had hives all over my body.

Never would want to do that again, they are more painful than bee stings.


I still think they are fascinating tho. Look at the way it retracts its wings and then extends them for flight.

What do the locals use to treat the pain of these stings where they are common and originated? Our western meds do not work, do they use alcohol? Booze is the only thing that helped me. Ice did not help either, but heat did.

I wonder if we can breed these with tarantula wasps?

It's a wasp. Murder hornet my ass.

I stuck my hand in a Asian hornets nest by accident a few yrs ago while reaching for the window latch here in Nepal, nest was under the sill. Got stung but not these murder hornets though. Bastards gave me Hep A from it which led to Jaundice, was sick for some months and a few hospital stays but all good now. I would hate to think of the damage these big ones can do though.
