Modern life (at least pre-Covid) is already hectic enough, with time to wake up, prepare for a meeting, arrive at an appointment, run a chore, go the the dentists, etc, already often looming an hour too soon. So pushing clocks forward by one hour makes that pace even more hectic. As for sunlight, the sun naturally sets later and later during the summer months in the Northern hemisphere, so the idea of "more sunshine" occurs anyway. Besides, most people who claim they like more hours of sun often end up stowed away inside watching TV, on a PC, at a gym, Starbucks, movie theater, store, workplace. |

Quoting: Half Past Midnight That settles it. I'm moving to Arizona. You won't like it. You can open carry and conceal carry with NO permit. We can carry automatic knives, own suppressors, and have REAL ARs with no stupid CA modifications. Not to mention REAL 30 and 60 round magazines. Then again, you might be a REAL American and actually like it here. |

Quoting: Half Past Midnight Trump should sign an EO to get rid of the changes. Daylight Saving Time was officially put into effect by Lyndon Johnson in the 1960s. Then a few decades later it was extended from 6 months to 7 months. More recently, under Bush Jr, it was extended to today's 8 months. One of the most idiotic bits of legislation he allowed to pass. Although I believe he said he wasn't for it. Still, he allowed it to be enacted. I doubt that President Trump gives a damn one way or the other. He reportedly doesn't even sleep much so the lost hour due to Daylight Saving and the big con of "we gain more sunlight" likely makes DST worthwhile to him. DST has been promoted by junk-food manufacturers (supposedly pushing people to do everything an hour faster means they have more time for crappy food and junk candy), owners of golf courses and other recreational businesses and operations. DST was supposedly a way to save energy. But a study in Indiana found that pushing clocks forward by one hour actually caused an increase in energy usage compared with when the time wasn't screwed around with. |

User ID: 73823684 United States 10/31/2020 08:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I remember that. My friends and I would drive from CA to AZ and camp out on Lake Mojave below Hoover Dam. After a couple of days, we would need to make the 1 1/2 hour drive to the nearest store (Dolan Springs) for supplies. Then we would have to wait another hour for them to unlock the beer cooler, since they weren't on DST. God, that was nearly 40 years ago. I just wish they would pick one or the other for the entire country and stick with it. I never reset the clock in my car. It is just easier to wait 6 months than to go through the hassle. What the Hell?... |

Like when the Vietnam war was 'officially' started after it had been going on for years. It didn't become official till war widow started complaining. Your last paragraph confirms why Ben Franklin started it. |
