Rolly (Goni), already considered the strongest this year even when it was still classified as a typhoon, intensified further into a super typhoon. The effects? Expected to be catastrophic.

Again, I'll remind you that I volunteer with the Philippines NDRRMC (US FEMA equivalent) and PDRRMO's (Cal OES equivalent).

This will be devastating for them and it is the most densely populated city in the world with poor drainage. I've dione a few business trips there and all it takes is a decent downpour from a thunderstorm to flood most of the downtown area.

PLACED WITH HIGH CONFIDENCE BASED ON THE SPIRAL BANDS

It's not just that. I've been there too. They have the worst infrastructure in SE Asia and the highest level of poverty of any SE Asian city. Slums are full of "houses" made of sheet metal and wood scraps and of course those will all be destroyed.

I feel so sorry for what is about to happen to them.

A GLP poster from a past Hurricane once told how he had pulled out his tools and started screwing in extra hurricane strips and lumber to keep the roof on ..
