Their peak was 600AD and most cities were abandoned by 900AD, so no I don’t think it was the Mayans that disappeared overnight. But Roanoke, now that’s where they found plates of food still sitting on tables. Many signs that pointed to a quick “abandonment” of the colony. Remember there was nothing outside of these first colonies. Why would they up and leave the safety of their walls in such a quick fashion and leave all of their belongings necessary to facilitate survival among the harsh elements.
