I ain't saying you didn't see one, but in my experience, most people mistake turkey vultures catching a thermal and soaring for an eagle. They also mistake hawks for eagles too.

You said you saw a white head, so it probably was an eagle.

Yes its a old Indian belief when this happens you must burn your teepee down and leave that area for 50 years, in your case burn your house down and never come back..

Very few people can identify birds today. That is an old ancestral skill. They see a large wingspan and it's really a great blue heron which look nothing like bald eagles.

It ain't unusual along one swampy area for various large fowl to hunt and people go out and watch 'em.

It's afresh skill for young people to hear a bird call and learn to identify it. It's like seeing fresh tracks and knowing what mammal that is.

You're supposed to know this ancient wisdom, not work in an sterile office. No wonder young people are messed up.

You take just about anyone out camping for a month, and their bad attitude totally changes. It's like a metamorphosis.

I think people like very unnatural lives and like Thoreau said, live lives of quiet desperation.

You go camping and get some normal food in you, go hiking,canoeing,.rock climbing, and maybe make love to your spouse, and you will feel right as rain.

If you can't do all that, go horseback riding.

The Fish and Wildlife and the Firesty service keep tabs on some speciees in your state. So they know rough estimates on population.

There are remote places I can go and see all kinds of wildlife. Seeing eagles is rare. One may take a vantage spot at the top of a tree and perch. It'shard to get up close.

An ornithologist at your state university could gve you some plausible answers.

An eagle needs a significant meal, and can eat fish or a rabbit or can be opportunistic...but carrion is rare and means the area is hunted out.

That's eat up to a pound a day and so unless there is lots to eat, they would have to move on.

Anyone interested in large predatory birds, ought to inquire and see if someone teaches falconry and of there is rescue center that works with them. You could go volunteer and learn. That is a very exciting activity. Look on youtube where they teach a bird to hunt and come back.

That would be great for some headstrong teenager and might turn them around.
