The FBI has taken over investigating the alleged plot

Daily Beast: Philadelphia police took at least one man into custody Thursday night as they probed an alleged plot to attack the city’s convention center where the swing state’s votes are still being counted, according to reports.

Tensions have been high outside of the Pennsylvania Convention Center since Election Day, with opposing groups of President Donald Trump and Joe Biden supporters gathering to protest outside the building. But Philly police appear to have prevented something much more dangerous.

According to multiple reports, a heavily armed armed group is said to have driven a GMC Hummer up from Virginia to carry out the alleged plot. No one was reported injured, and police did not identify the detained suspect or provide details about the threat.

But video showed a man being taken away in handcuffs and police retrieving a large gun. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the group was armed with AR-15 rifles.

The Inquirer also reported that a Hummer matching the description was seen with stickers linked to the QAnon conspiracy movement, including a large “Q” and “#WWG1WGA,” which the pro-Trump conspiracy theorists use to stand for “Where we go one, we go all”—the group’s motto. The Hummer has now been seized by police, according to Reuters.

QAnon is a baseless far-right internet conspiracy theory whose increasingly violent adherents claim a “deep state” of Democratic leaders are cannibalizing and trafficking children and Trump is secretly fighting them off. Several Republican congressional candidates have endorsed the theories.

CBS Philadelphia reported that a second man was taken into custody in connection to the alleged attack plot—but the identities of the suspects have not been released by police. Inside the building, election workers continued counting ballots that could prove crucial in determining who wins the state, which remains to be called for either presidential candidate.

The FBI has taken over investigating the alleged plot, a Fox News correspondent reported on Twitter.
