Re: the People of the United States are a Star Trek episode, "The Enemy Within" (1966).
I have had an old Star Trek episode on my mind lately.

They go to this planet that for some reason is about to be destroyed, and a man there is in charge of this time machine that lets people go back to a time and place of their choice.

Kirk and Spock (maybe Bones too?) somehow go into it, and they end up in different places, Spock goes back to a Stone-Age time and ends up falling in love with a woman who is there. He is able to love because his people still had emotions at that time.

I believe Kirk ends up in a French Revolution kind of place.

Most of the on the planet have already gone into the machine, maybe the man pushed them in thinking they would die if he didn't because the planet was just about to blow up.

Anyway I wish we had access to such a machine. I would set it to America of 1958, or even 1972, though that would increase my chances of still being alive during this awful time.

Early 1700s France would work too, but it would have to be early enough to where I would not be around by the time of the Revolution.
