Every country has its national security concerns, and Israel is right to have its own, considering that it has been surrounded by nations that are hostile to it.

However, attacking a country as vast and well-armed as Iran will immediately trigger a full-scale regional war. It's the one reason that the US and Israel have so far chosen not to attack. They've war-gamed this. Every conceivable scenario ends with full-scale regional war.

But it's not just the human cost that worries the US and Israel.

In the event of war with Iran, the most vital oil chokepoint on earth (the Strait of Hormuz) will be massively disrupted for several months, destroying the global economy at a time when it's starting to show signs of a slow recovery.

It won't just be the Strait of Hormuz issue, either. In a war that will surely drag in the Saudis, the world's largest oil refineries will be destroyed by ballistic missiles, wiping out production.

Then there's the biggie - the strong possibility of Russia being drawn in. Ask, would Putin sit back and allow Russia's entire southern frontier to go up in flames and become destabilized? Probably not. There's also the question of whether Israel would knowingly bomb Iranian nuclear reactors that Russian scientists are working in. That could deliver an unpredictable response by Putin that would certainly give Bibi and Trump a moment of pause before authorizing such a strike.

Again, the reason there has not yet been a "shock and awe" on Iran is because there are too many variables at play, and most of them do not work out well for the attacking side.
