You misinterpret what happens. Far from being a trap, the light portal is the entrance to the afterlife. If you have died but refuse to enter this portal, your soul will become earthbound, trapped between heaven and earth in a dark grey fog, unable to communicate with those in either. You will then suffer because you are trapped amongst dark souls who entered the same state because of the evil they did in their earthly lives. People were forced back whilst having NDEs out of compassion, because those who welcome newcomers to the next world instinctively know (don't ask me how) that they are not yet ready to pass on, and so they tell them to return to their bodies.

Anyone who tells you to avoid the divine light of God's higher worlds is trying to condemn you to the misery and suffering of being trapped in Purgatory by the wilful act of refusing to join the higher life with God.
