Yesterday evening in a local park, I led 5 Daisy (kindergarten) Girl Scouts in a socially distanced lesson about animal diversity.

We shouted out the most unusual animals we could think of, and the most unusual ones we had ever seen. I reminded them that bugs are animals, too. We talked about animal communication, their sounds and their movements and what they mean, and we imitated them - that was a hOOt!

Then we all did the chicken dance. Three times, which exhausted me. As part of the exercise, they each had two pink streamers to pretend to be wings. So when we did the fly around part of the chicken dance, they all had pink streamers hanging streaming from their hands.

At the end, we sang taps as the sun was setting.

This morning, as I waited for the school bus to arrive with a third grader, we listened to a woodpecker. We watched 3 male cardinals fight at a feeder. We talked about how we hoped the hummingbirds from last year, Ruby and Roberto, would return again any day.

If it's a loosh farm, why do we have to give away the loosh?

If we're directing our focus and energy toward improving our existence here for each other and toward our natural world ...
