User ID: 79526623 United States 11/14/2020 09:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ***I do not recommend anyone purchase and use these if you have not had the proper training, they are not harmless, they have caused severe injury and death due to improper handling, storage and usage*** 1: ALWAYS wear nomex gloves and eye protection when using these. It made me cringe seeing the guy in the video handling the device in the manner he did, with no PPE as well as the way he held it and pulled the pin. 2: ABSOLUTELY do not hold it the way the gentleman in the video did. The spoon should be in the web of your hand and held firmly, but not with a death grip. 3: Once the pin is pulled, deploy it in a safe area immediately! The longer you hold it, the greater the chance of the spoon being milked and the fuze being ignited accidentally. These devices will, without a doubt, blow your entire hand off at the wrist. I've seen it. I have the video of it happening in my training material. 4: They will cause fires, look at the scorch marks left in the video. We always carried fire extinguishers and used them a few times on operations because Murphy would always rear his ugly head. Curtains would catch fire, upholstery, etc. 5: They blow debris everywhere. 6: They should be stored in an explosives magazine. Leaving them in go bags, plate carriers or laying loose leaves the pin exposed to snagging on something and getting pulled inadvertently, which will lead to a very bad day. There are many other things to consider, but those are the major considerations. As with anything, educate yourself as much as possible, seek out reputable training and exercise safety. Do not take these devices lightly. |
