“Just out of the blue, and it happened so fast,” Rhonda Embry said.

Devon Embry went from the football field to a hospital bed on oxygen.

“We’re just stunned and we’re shocked,” Rhonda Embry said.

She said her nephew is a big, healthy and strong 6-foot teenager who, fewer than two weeks ago, was playing defense for Prague Middle School when he suddenly fell ill.

“Sunday morning, actually, he’s walking with a sore throat,” Rhonda Embry said.

That sore throat was followed by a headache and stomach pain.
