How high up is the first stage when it separates from the second? Is it not high enough to cause it to burn up on reentry?

Usually very little. Super chats are the main source of income on my channel.

They have a certain degree of heat shielding around the bottom of the rocket as it reenters, and the entry burn forces the reentry heating away from the bottom of the vehicle.

Same telescope for most videos actually including this one, but now with a much better camera for filming bright objects like launches and the space station. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K. I wouldn't describe it as cheap, but it's a very good value for the money.

The landing of the first stage rockets on the Atlantic barges is becoming routine. The tech that SpaceX is creating is revolutionizing the Space launch business. They have cut the cost to almost half of what the others are charging per pound to orbit. The Russians have been complaining and they are even working on a first stage return design to compete with Elon Musk and his SpaceX.
