Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79621716 Compared to the Soyuz capsule interior, the SpaceX Dragon is gigantic. It's even got a toilet with a privacy curtain. Articonis |

User ID: 79104612 Spain 11/18/2020 05:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Stupid questions here. Space x is private? So we don’t use Russia for transport.? How much does it cost for these trips and who pays for them? Thanks Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78474652 SpaceX is a private company, the first to launch humans into orbit. My understanding is that NASA is paying about 55 million dollars per astronaut for this mission, as opposed to about 86 million per astronaut for a Soyuz mission. And this way they also get four astronauts on the station with each launch instead of only two Americans at most (the third in the Soyuz being a Russian Cosmonaut). First of all, congratulations on this achievement! Second, 55 mil per Astronaut wow that's still way to expensive. Do you see this figure get lower in the future? I expected it to be way lower already because the first stage can be reused. Thanks. For those interested here the actual docking to Node 2. Starts at around 10:00. I've done this so many times in Orbiter2010 simulations lol awesome to see it IRL. Here a (fast) docking example in the simulator. it is free program for those who want it. It's awesome. (OP) Senior Forum Moderator 11/18/2020 07:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's anotherdumb question: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24499233 How much was it for the shuttle to get people into space with today's inflation/dollar devaluation? More than Detroit [link to theconversation.com (secure)] shuttle: 54k/kg spacex: 2.7k/kg but the shuttle had a bigger load, and was more badass.... Wait, that doesn't add up to 55 Million, figure 4 guys at 250 lbs each, that comes out to about 1.2 Million, not 55 million... So Spacex is making 53.8 Million dollars per launch? Total mass of the crew Dragon vehicle is 12,055 kg. Plus the crew dragon vehicle itself costs extra, the processing required to make all of that happen costs extra, and the processing for a manned launch is more expensive than a cargo launch. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79621716 They're floating in microgravity, they have full use of the volume of the capsule. It's really not all that cramped compared to Soyuz. |

What do you think of the mouse that was caught on video crawling over the Dragonx engine out in the middle of space a few months ago? Quoting: Coloradical It wasn't a mouse. If it’s real how do mice, live outside of earths atmosphere?? As shown running around from a recent launch? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78028677 They don't. That wasn't a mouse. It was ice sliding around the turbopump exhaust pipe. It happens all the time. Just because it looked "like a mouse" to you this time (CRS-19) doesn't mean it was literally a mouse. Here are other examples of it happening: 19:16, 22:49 [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] 19:14, 21:44 [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] 26:15 [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] 11:55 [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] 26:23 [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

It was also good practice for an even better pass opportunity tomorrow night which will also involve a very special surprise... Hopefully the weather holds! 5 Star GLP voter alliance thread... |
