Re: Anyone here cancelling Thanksgiving??
I have cancelled it. My dad passed away a few months ago and as far as I'm concerned, the holidays can come and go. His birthday is New Years Day so basically I just want to make it until the 2nd. If I could sleep through it, I would... and actually I might. My son is 25 and kind of a Xmas kinda guy but I told him not this year. No turkey, no tree although I will make a ham for a ham and bean soup. With everything else going on, I just want the holidays to be over with. I know my dad would never want me to be so sad but I just can't help it. Maybe next year will be better but with the political environment as it is, I have doubts....

No I refuse to stop giving thanks. Every year for us, it is just us, I am use to making the day special for me and taking the time to stop and give thanks to GOD for what he has given me. I miss the big family gatherings of when I was a child. We never took the time then to truely be thankful it was just a big family gathering. Now I take the time get out the good dishes make special foods and say out loud what I am thankful for. My kids who are still at home roll their eyes but they too must say one thing they are thankful for.

Where my Aunt lives, they are limited to personal gatherings of only 6 people. But funerals can have 30 people. She usually has very large Thanksgivings. So all she did was send out her normal amount of invitations.....inviting people to the funeral for their dear departed turkey.

My daughter's school asked if we were having a big gathering. Since I don't have any family except for my husband and kids, we're doing what we always do.

I called my mother tonight. I haven’t seen her in almost a year. I told her I wanted to come visit for Thanksgiving. She got very flustered, said I couldn’t do that, numbers are climbing and I might be exposed to someone at the hotel.

My mother is really developing a fear. She gets respiratory illnesses easy so she has been extremely cautious and goes almost no where.

Ugh!

In my state we can only have 8 people for thanksgiving in a household and no more than two families ...Through governor edict ....

So that’s why I invited 40 plus and sent the governor an invite with my guest list numbers .... if he needed to come tell us to stop

My sister is the same. She follows whatever Covid guidelines exist. She doesn't see her grandkids for now, at least up until 12/22.

To be honest, it doesn't really bother me to not visit family anymore.

We are protesting Thanksgiving in a group of 40, side dishes are optional for post protest nutrition. We will say a prayer at the end of the 1-minute protest.

Awww...this makes me really sad for you, and your son. I can’t imagine losing my Mom & Stepdad so I can’t begin to imagine how you feel. I’m so sorry though and I hope it gets better. It’s been such a shitty year for everyone. Maybe have your son put up the tree so you don’t have to. I put mine up last week (I usually don’t put anything up anymore) but I needed some happy cheer around here. What would your Dad want you to do? Whatever that is, try your best if you can, for him and maybe it will make you a little less sad. Hugs

Brining a 21 pounder! Lots of green bean casserole, fruit jello, major mashed potatoes, gravy, dinner rolls. Fresh cranberry sauce, pumpkin pies, fruit pie, ice cream, home made pralines...oh, sweet potato souffle.

Overnight relatives, morning electric skillet for bacon, eggs, sweet rolls, coffee, monopoly...a tradition. This year we are having a fukkyoufauci gathering as a new tradition.Did I mention our turkey is this year named fukk-u-fauci?

Lots of mimosa, wine, family, 2 alone neighbors...no masks, just love and thankful we are Americans.

Nope.

Turkey with Oyster dressing is too much to resist.

Plus the Collard Greens, String bean casserole, Ham Biscuits, Corn Pudding, Apricot Salad, Yams with Marshmallows, Corn Salad, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy and the Pecan Pie wont eat themselves you know.
 Quoting: Sledster the Deplorable

NO MAN, you are doing it all wrong.

Here in the Bayou Country we are gonna throw down with a Spatchcocked turkey grilled on my weber. Make a big ole pot of mirliton and shrimp casserole, a big serving dish of Candied yams, (YES) oyster dressing, string beans with nicely smoked Tasso, a serving platter with deviled eggs, a pan of freshly baked dinner rolls, pecan pie for sure and NEVER forget the Cranberry sauce to dress up the Turkey.

I know I am forgetting something, it will come to me eventually.

Re: Anyone here cancelling Thanksgiving??
Was supposed to be about 30 people gathering, then everyone just decided to do their own household Thanksgiving dinners. Then my liberal aunt was telling me how she had to quarantine in her basement and my uncle would leave food at the door while their two kids and my other aunts two kids all went to the beach, definitely drinking and partying. Then she's telling me about all the sick people she knows, and one died. Funny, I don't know a single person who had the virus. I think it may be a relief since almost everyone in my family is a democrat and dinner conversations are gonna go south really fast if I open my mouth. Anyway, off to the grocery store to buy some frozen turkey dinners, 2/$5 sale, and toilet paper for the coming post-Thanksgiving day BS lockdowns cause "muh cases".
 Quoting: Rude_Inseminator

Not "cancelling Thanksgiving" here...

We are planning actual Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.

But... nobody to ruin our day, nobody to complain or whine about their special needs or instigate political or religious arguments or violate our privacy

Just me and the wife.

Frankly... this will probably be the best Turkey day ever.

But thanks, for trying to make it seem that celebrating a single-household holiday, for ONE occasion, is somehow "cancelling" our enjoyment of the day or our thankfulness for what we've got... and what we HAVEN'T got.

I will be alone on Thanksgiving. My stepmother is not allowed to fly out to see me after she bought tickets as her job informed her she would be fired. She cried uncontrollably and there is nothing I can do. If I fly out there I will be quarantined and lose MY job when I get back!

Amen! I am very thankful to be above ground after losing so much this year including my Father and my cat. It has been the worst year of my life and that is WITHOUT factoring in Covid effects. A perfect storm yet it has pushed my closer to God than I have ever been before.

THAT is what I am most thankful for.

And I also love my GLP brothers and sisters. VERY thankful for them.

they'll be canceling Christmas too.

That is the feather in their cap. Of course they will.

1) Close houses of worship - done
2) Cancel Christmas - coming
3) Ban the Bible and any mention of GOD. - Soon
