Keep in mind...Trump did NOT do this. It was John Roberts. Here is information about the actual law: [ link to www.law.cornell.edu (secure)] The above mentions that the Chief Justice can make such assignments in times of vacation. We have the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, so that makes sense. What it does not say is if the Chief Justice may do this at times other than vacation. It is GOOD that Trump did not do this because there will be no uproar about the Executive Branch interfering with the Judicial Branch. Idk why John Roberts divided it up like this. Perhaps only some of the Justices were moved around. Maybe he picked areas closer to where the Justices live when on vacation or maybe he drew them out of a hat or asked his dog to decide. Who knows? Except...isn’t it fascinating how it was all divided with 4 conservatives each responsible for a contested election state? Okay, I’ve double checked the theory about being near to where they are from during the Thanksgiving holiday. Except for Kavanaugh, all four were assigned to areas near where they’re from. Have a little turkey, keep an eye on the nearest circuit court. Barrett is from Indiana, and she has Wisconsin. Alito is from New Jersey, and he has Pennsylvania. Thomas is from Georgia, and he has Georgia. Kavanaugh is from DC, and he has Michigan which is far away. Roberts apparently wanted DC for himself.
