Their was a time when Americans were very squirrelly about Catholics holding political power in the federal government.
Now seems like no one could care less.
Quoting: Parallax Error There was some controversy in the late 1950s about the Catholicism of Kennedy. Which was dumb since secularism and religion take a back seat to ideology. For instance, look at today's Pope Francis in the Vatican. He's way more of a leftist than he's anything else. that's definitely the reason. in the 50s/60s, the catholic church was still considered to be 'conservative' in it's views on marriage/family roles and homosexuality among other teachings. today's church, led by anti-pope francis, is firmly in the camp of the progressives so there is now no need for them to protest about a candidate's religion unless it serves their goals and can be used to hurt an enemy such as with the questions and concerns about ACB's catholic faith.  .
