Thus statement is so ridiculous, I dont know where to begin. It begs the question tho ... If the soldiers who scourged Jesus, placed a crown of thorns on His head, nailed His hands and feet to the cross, and ultimately pierced His side with a sword didnt know they were hurting Him, what did they think they were doing? Clearly their intent was to hurt and kill. Jesus saying that they did not know what they were doing was not referring to their actions, but to it's effect bc they didnt realize TO WHOM THEIR ACTIONS WERE DIRECTED. People that have no use for Scripture in their life, betray their lack of knowledge when they try to use the Bible to justify their abominations.
