Have you read any of Titor's stuff?
It give a pretty realistic account of how it will unfold and it will be a slow boil over 8 or so years with rural areas going up against major cities. If you look at our present situation this is EXACTLY how it's playing out.
IMO food growers out in the country will have the upper hand in this as they can blockade large cities to just starve them out.
