From my understanding it is a theft prevention measure. It's a tough call because I hate being funneled in and out one entrance. On the other hand I dislike shoplifting.

Walmart is F'd up, I went in yesterday to send Christmas money to my kids, just as I have for every Christmas, Birthday or emergency for the last 7 years. Just so happens I needed to renew my drivers license and in MO they stamp void on your plastic and give you a paper version (with pic) until the state sends a new plastic. So I tell the lady I need to send money, cash in hand, she pulls it all up on the screen, all the info is there and then she says (as always) I need to see your license...then she informs me that I can't send money without the plastic version, no other form of ID will do, not even my passport. I can cash a check and they will give me money without a license, but they won't let me send cash (that's the new sign she showed me) I said are you serious? yep, now I have to find an alternate way to get money to the kids...I was SO ticked off. NOTHING Walmart does any more surprises me, can't wait until I live somewhere that I don't have to go in another one

Couple weeks ago I scanned three items at the self checkout. Something must have a triggered an alert because an attendant came over to check it out.

On the screen played a video of me from overhead scanning my items. I showed the lady what was in my bags. Totally creepy.

my thoughts exactly! its super creepy. its like a holding facility accept the gates arent fortefeid enough to withstand a 1-2 person beating. it could be pre-conditioning along with obvious theft prevention

I was able to use my passport without any problem when sending money today at Walmart. Maybe the clerk at the Walmart you went to doesn't know what she's doing or doesn't understand the store's policies.

I never feel 100% comfortable in this store. Your picture is taken as soon as you walk in. The place is full of Chinese schlock and the food especially the produce sucks.

There are low price bargains that keep people coming in and although there are a few other options in my local small town it remains the most popular place. Probably because of everything being in one place.

What really rubs me the wrong way is their political activism and the nerve to display the American flag from the ceiling all over the store when clearly they are a globalist corporation. I'm not sure anybody gets that but they own stores all over communist China.

the fema walmart thing from 2015 is really happening.

i wasnt able to cash a lottery check in walmart it was only $500. it was a lottery commission check there should have been no reason i couldnt cash it

Stores with high theft numbers will probably get these types of upgrades.

Yeah, I did an earlier thread a few weeks back when I started seeing aisles moved around and couldn't figure out what they were doing, now I see the end result.

I mean the check-out area is all open now, before there were all separate lanes, but wow, now there's only one way in and one way out, not cool.

my local walmart is trash, never upgraded to super center

opens at 6:30am

it kick ass for game releases, because its not open at midnight

I’ve not seen this in my area of Texas. Yet.

I was wondering if was due to high thievery, but not sure how this helps by locking everyone in? I mean before they had two people by the door, so nothing's changed.

They've had them at our WalMart for about a year.

And we're in a small town, about 7k in population.

Freaked me the F out when they first installed them. I don't know the purpose, and I figured they'd get around the doing it in all the stores eventually.

Still don't know why.

This has been at my local Walmart(s) for years, It's really not that creepy.

It's to prevent theft...

it could happen at any moment a few modifications to the store and walla a strong holding center

They just changed mine like this too in prob last couple weeks. Im up in Canada

We have 3 Walmarts in our area, but only one has the gates which were installed months ago. It's also the worst for shoplifting.
My step-son works asset protection in that store.

This was one of those mini Walmart grocery stores, that's why it's so weird. A few years back, like five of them popped up in the area, no windows, except maybe upstairs, cement floors, just have a prison feel about them.

I did notice one of our super centers the same thing, because I did manage to get in on the wrong end, but then the carts were way over on entrance on other end, but I could not get one, because they had those one way gates, and so I was stuck in store without cart. Last time I was there they had real cops guarding out front, yeah, getting pretty squirrely.

We have that since ever here in supermarkets.
Just don’t care about the alarm after a few weeks they will get used to it going off all the time and mostly ignore it.

she's been at the service desk for longer than I've lived here (that much I know) It just seems REALLY stupid to give money without a license but you can't send money. The paper version is the exact same thing, picture, number and all

Well hopefully that's all it is, but pretty freaky when you get in somewhere and can't get out. I mean I had to cut through 20 people in line to leave, just telling them hey I'm not buying anything.

This wasn't because of covid they did this a long time ago by us. Its to add the new self checkouts and force you to go through them and the loss prevention cameras. I am all for exposing covid but this isn't a covid thing
