Testing for CV is officially encouraged, but at grass roots level discouraged. Number are just numbers.

how did they achieve this? did they stop testing?

They probably stopped spraying the virus over that area. Once they start up again it will be back.

maybe if they get a positive they do a retest to see if its a false positive? and if it is false, its not a new case.

they tracked down every case of it, and put people in quarantines.

from december 7 people will be able to fly into melboourne from internationals it says in the paper. but of course they are gonna have to go into 2 weeks quarantine.

I was in Vic for the first 6 months of the so called pandemic until I escaped back to the US. I'll tell you right now it was just as much of a scam there as it is anywhere. Daniel Andrews gets his marching orders from China. This whole thing has been a social experiment/brainwashing event. Andrews now touts no cases, hence the lockdown and violations of civil liberties saved lives and eliminated the virus. They are programming people to hate freedom and love tyranny.

Victoria has achieved 28 days without a new case of coronavirus – the milestone epidemiologists say signals the elimination of COVID-19 in the community.

The state has ended the week on a high with Friday marking the 28th so-called "double doughnut day" in a row in the wake of the disastrous second coronavirus wave.

"That is something all Victorians should be fundamentally proud of," Premier Daniel Andrews told a public accounts and estimates committee on Friday morning.

According to the working definition, a state or territory has achieved elimination of community transmission of coronavirus if it goes 28 days with no mystery cases, a period which represents two long incubation cycles for the virus.

University of Melbourne epidemiologist Tony Blakely said new cases will almost certainly leach back into the community as a result of international arrivals and hotel quarantine breaches. But he said the state's contract tracing program has been improved so dramatically they pose less of a threat than at the outset of the pandemic.

"It was a bit of a longshot to actually get all the way to elimination," he said, "I'm pleasantly surprised that we’ve been able to bring it back from that high point."

Professor Blakely said the milestone was a "huge tribute" to Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Professor Brett Sutton, and his deputy Professor Allen Cheng. "They are the masterminds of this," he said.

"When we got down to 10 [cases] per day, it was stubbornly there, I thought this might be our new reality."

He said the key to reaching elimination was fixing Victoria's contract tracing efforts in Melbourne's northern suburbs so that small outbreaks could be quickly shut down.
