We humans need to raise our heads up to the sky and watch the stars, but not only with telescopes and a materialist mind, but learn to the with our souls, that we are part of the whole universe, that we belong, and that we are not alone. Otherwise our lives will continue to become too one-sided and thus brutal and unforgiving. We are more then just mineral dust, we crave to travel to the stars because unconsciously we are homesick. Open your hearts and be creative, don't allow yourself to be restricted into viewing your extistence in a purely materialist way, and don't think of things or spirituality in only abstract ways.. we humans are amazing, be the makers of your own destiny.

Arecibo wasn't junk. Well, now it is, but it wasn't. Though the Chinese one is larger, it lacks the radar capabilities that Arecibo had.

Yeah, it makes little sense otherwise. While it was still intact, re-cabling would not have been too difficult or expensive. Just run additional cables, then cut out the old ones (or not) when you're done). A few million dollars of cost at most.

Stupidity, like how we were going to let the orbit of the Hubble Telescope decay and have it burn up in the atmosphere, rather than following the regular schedule of boosting it.

I wonder what it means for the military uses. I would guess it means they had replaced it somehow with something better, and probably a long while ago.

But obviously, with a radio telescope, you could do astronomy stuff and search for aliens, or you could monitor radio signals from Earth.

So obviously it had value to the military at some point. I guess they replaced it somehow with a different approach.
