Having good friends all around you that have skills in plumbing, electrical, mechanics, construction, etc etc.. Trading is going to be more important than ever. Quoting: Five Forty Four A.M. Keep those friends close, and have something to trade. Almost everyone has a skill. Hell, if you dont, do the lawn, watch the kids, or any number of things. That's not a bad thing to have. Good friends with lots of different skill sets. Can't agree with you more....in bad economic or chaotic times, barter will come into play.....I already see it happening with small businesses stressed by the pandemic....just a few days ago, a barber traded a number of haircuts to a plumber for a sink replacement.... |

User ID: 78311287 United States 12/03/2020 10:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We have rental properties so we are responsible for 9 refrigerators including our own. On the night before Thanksgiving, our 20-year-old refrigerator finally gave up the ghost. We woke Thanksgiving morning to food that was already way past the "iffy" stage. So, into the dumpster went our big treat: a full thanksgiving dinner for two from a four star restaurant and an extra turkey breast plus the usual stuff in the refrigerator/freezer. The next day we discovered that someone had stolen the refrigerator from a vacant apartment we were upgrading. So, we had to buy two refrigerators this week. Fortunately, we have been dealing with a used appliance guy for years who is honest and trustworthy. He happened to have one stainless (for us) and a nice white one for the apartment. We felt very lucky...especially because he hauled our old one off and installed both new refrigerators. Now we are keeping our fingers crossed that the other 7 don't go bad. Quoting: joeym I'm sorry that happened to your Thanksgiving dinner. :( First tell the truth, then give your opinion.... |

Probably because the Deagel report is forecasting a surplus in appliances. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77004473 Agreed. I don't think there is a shortage either. Supply is being deliberately limited. |

It came from my grandparents house. Our in-house refrigerator is 2 years old and already has problems freezing on the ref coils. Always vacuum around and under, every week. Quoting: SmoothSailing Nice. I have a freezer inherited from inlaws. 1950 International Harvester upright. Still working after 70 years. Heavy as a tank. Love it. Wow! Built to last!! "A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." Marcus Tullius Cicero |

User ID: 76648271 Canada 12/04/2020 01:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Old washers and dryers run forever. I prefer them old. Old furnaces are good too, mine is a 60's coleman. I stripped it right down last year and cleaned the gas vents with a hacksaw blade, then blasted out the tubes with an air compressor. Igniter, thermocouple, whatever, can find those parts anywhere. Easy 10-20 minute fix. The old parts are still common because they used to be interchangeable. I'm gonna keep that thing forever unless the heat exchanger goes. Stove and fridge good to upgrade, the other stuff better to have old. Not only do they run forever but they operate like they are supposed to. I like the simple ones...no computer parts to goof up and fail. Computer brains always fail. I had recent experience with two new washers down in old Mexico...neither one of them worked.. wouldn't fill, would rinse...or yeah low water. Whose brain-child idea was low water in a washer machine? The clothes just twist up in a knot and you can't get them untangled. That is how I fractured my back last year trying to get tangle twisted clothes out of that new washer and they were hung up under the paddles too. Sumbitch I hope youre young, friend. That shit don't heal easy. Embrace the cognitive dissonance. |

I spent all of last night and some of this morning on a quest and finally pulled the trigger on a replacement from AJ Madison. The old fridge (a MagicChef... must be a GE knockoff) will be going in the basement! It ain't that hard if a fella has wiring numbers, writes stuff down, has basic tools and a multimeter. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79111570 I wound up replacing the extractor fan and an entire circuit board on my 30+ year old Natural Gas furnace for this condo last winter... I spent 7 days with no heat waiting on the circuit board to come from eBay. I was 90% confident I could fix it, used my multimeter and found a bad relay. I'm 26 years young, but not stupid.
