It's weirdly nostaligic remembering the early days of the pandemic -- I was talking about that with my TAs this evening (we had a Zoom meeting). I was already a daily reader of this thread at this time last year ... and had already warned everyone I could get to listen to me. A few did -- many did not.

Weird to think about how much the entire world can change in a year's time ...

Sending my best to everyone who is struggling. We're really fortunate to have found each other -- I suspect that has kept us somewhat sane.

With the new variants spreading so fast, I am even more glad that I prepped like I did -- and that I am not insecure about running out of staple items. That bit about infection in 1 second rather rattled me ... I still have to pick up meds at the pharmacy in person at least once a month. Masks are required, but still ... very scary stuff.

Also wanted to mention that I watched the video that sos posted -- I watched it a couple of days ago. It is not the first time we've heard that there are similarities in the SARS-CoV-2 genome to HIV and rabies, particularly in the way it binds to human receptors, and that the gene sequence seems not to be something that occurred without some help.

I am all for investigative science, but I'm completely in agreement with sos in thinking that we should be looking very closely at Daszac and the EcoHealth Alliance. There was a good reason for the ban on gain-of-function research ... I remember thinking that at the time, when it (the EO ban) happened. There are a lot of loopholes in science, with regarding to the funding chain, and the ability to divert funding from one project to another in order to avoid restrictions. It's not the first time Fauci has played a role in that happening ... and honestly, it's a common practice in high-level academic science. It's been a big problem in the CDC for a long time, as well as the NIH (which is where most of the grant funding is allocated.) As I understand it, many of the decisions as to which projects will be funded are actually made by agencies like DARPA, and some three letter agencies ... but the funding is labeled as coming from the NIH (or, in my area of science, the NIMH). The real PTB are seldom named until years later, if at all.

Humanity (and other species, too) may now be paying the price for that kind of scientific ego-driven hubris.

Plenty to discuss. Surely after discussing the susceptible group for 15000 pages, you can surely fathom one reason, why the other group appears to have no short term Covid complications or other health related issues. Must the rear end be that puckered? (Joke calm down)

In fact I am very surprised, nobody has tried to postulate this fact and attempted to categorize the similarities in the types of people who have no complications upon contact of Covid.

Just seems to me, if we can categorize one group and all the similarities they have. And come to reasoning why they were more susceptible. Obese, underlining health issues, pre existing health conditions, etc etc

For one is unscientific, 2 is biased, and three to put it mildly, is just silly.

I am leaning towards genetics. For one he use what I have witnessed with my own eyes. And most Especially since I have been hearing of China and their goal of gaining genetic coding from , what appears to be Europeans and Americans. Check the news this past week. Why is the chinese wanting our genetic coding?

Well, in a sense, there is no point discussing the people who aren't sick. It would be like there is a huge quake in California, then going onto that thread as saying "hey you have discussed the people who where squished by falling skyscrapers in LA for 100 pages, why are you not talking about the 1000s more on the east coast who where not affected?"

Lots of people haven't caught it (yet or ever), whats there to discuss? We don't know why, maybe they are immunue, maybe they take precautions, maybe they havent been exposed yet etc.

But the only fact it so far people haven't caught it or have it and don't know it. ****

This thread is to discuss the impacts of the virus, keep track of its progress and to get a handle on what this really is rather than what gov tells us, based on facts, what we see, etc.

And you are spot on, the contagiousness varies, the impacts vary etc.

I know a family, mom/dad/baby, all had it Oct, seem fine; also know a couple who got it in Oct, recovered, reinfected late Dec, last I heard husband was still in hospital, wife at home with all whatever lung damage. All in mid twenties, all roughly same health, average I guess. My family is unaffected.

This thread follows events around virus, thus tends to focus on those who are sick (and long term effects being notice in those asymptomatic or lack there of), but in general lack of action doesn't get discusses cos there nothing to report, we cant post here every day and say "no reports of deaths in patients recovered a year ago" every day.

But what you said that I highlighted is actually kind of the point. In fact its exactly the point.

We need to wait to see what will happen, thus we cannot write it off yet as "healthy are not affected" or "most of the world won't get it" , which is why people are disagreeing with you.

We need to wait, thus we discuss what we can (impacts right now) and wait patiently to see what happens in others.

This does warrant discussion, and is part of the mystery of this virus and why it gets so much attention (its unnatural behavior)

I think the reason this doesn't get much attention is as I pointed out, we don't know why, plus we have no idea why others in the population are not affected. We don't know for sure they have been exposed and not infected.

Really we can only discuss it if we have known studies of people who were exposed and turned out immune, but this would be very hard to track.

In general whilst there is speculation, you'll see its mostly discussion of reported events, thus its mostly around the sick.

I am sure if you have valid theories or some ideas with backing as to why the infectiousness seems so random you can post it for discussion.

Or point out like you did the extremes, why are NFL not affected?

But in general no one knows, so you can't expect much of a pickup except for acknowledgement of "thats ruddy mysterious" or comparisons to other athletes that are affected (disproving the "all athletes are ok" theory).

No one has studied why NFL etc are not all dead, so theres not much for us to say?

But we do discuss them, its just the consensus was reached some time back based on evidence that there was no clear picture. Its not accepted in general by those who have followed this thread for months that they are immune to any long term effects, which is what people are telling you.

The fact that this thing gets into you and is totally asymptomatic is weird as f--k, thats part of what makes it unnatural.

Asymptomatics are very accepted and well known here, its just we don't know why, so its not discussed at length anymore.

I have a large family, a percentage amount have contracted Covid, (positive test) if you must know.

Not one has been hospitalized. Few have underlining health issues, one is a cancer survivor, some are healthy, some are old and some are young.

So again how am I in denial????
