Always liked Simon & Garfunkel’s version of Scarborough Fair, especially the version that can be found on their Greatest Hits album that was released in 1972.

That song is a wisewoman song. They say witch, but honestly it ain't that. It's a late medieval song about using herbs to make an unrequited romance work.

It's a requiem as he died young and so the situation is hopeless.

A long time ago, healers were apothocaries who studied herbs and even bravely tried that on themselves. Anyway, they also noticed the mental effects of scents on people to lift moods.

Today we know certain scents like rose oil locks in memories in the limbic system so it ain't just folklore.

Now that you are vaguely aware of the actual meaning, and especially if you loved someone in a profound way who died when young, then that song has layered meaning and isn't just a ballad popularized in the late sixties. It rather is a several hundred year old romantic tragedy unfolding and repeating through generations especially to war widows.

Seems like if an "eclipse" is a bad omen...having an
eclipse the week the world is seeing the roll-out of
the CORONA VIRUS VACCINE might have some "bad luck."

The Scottish poem made into a Scotch Irish song "Will Ye Go Lassie Go?" is a song about loss through the death of a beloved wife and then being blessed by remarriage to another. So thyme to the English, Scottish, and Irish was about young maidens and desire and romance.

Come All Ye Fair and Tender Girls is an old romantic ballad twinged with regret as men steal a young maiden's thyme (time) and so they pluck her virginity in a careless way without serious intent and so she becomes trapped in a loveless marriage.

Thyme was wild in some places and left undisturbed as they though the fey (faerie) had caused it to spring up, so it was a place of magic...perhaps wild dangerous magic. Then young maidens would put thyme in their hair to attract potential suitors.

It's about a man who carries a torch for a former love whom no other woman could hold a candle to. Also, in this version there's another layer, or round, that's a call to battle.
