Good morning all! No kabobs here, but I'm cooking country ham with scrambled eggs for Mrs. and egg with onion, peppers, and cheese for me.

'Gotta run and turn the ham and start the eggs.

See you all soon. hi

Sounds like a good brekky! That reminds me, I need to order some groceries.

Happy Monday!

Very nice!
I just have my usual local roast.
And it's snowing so hard I actually might get a snow morning, probably not a whole day..just until the plow gets to our road.

Re: Food with Attitude!
Howdy y'all. I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya, but I've been busier than a dung beetle in Washington D.C. They say absinthe makes the heart grow fonder, but I can't afford the expensive stuff these days; as far as I'm concerned it's better just to take the money and rum.

Last week was High Strangeness on the Ark-La-Tex border. It snowed eighteen inches and they shut the whole city down, which felt wrong to me because I'm originally from New England and I've seen it snow in July for goodness sakes. But on the Texas border that constitutes an end of the world scenario... I can only imagine how many babies will be born around November 15. Oh well, it's supposed to be 70* tomorrow and today it's 65 and all the birds are back on their perches— and I was finally able to buy some food at the grocery store, so now I have a legitimate reason to chime in on this excellent thread.

wine

I would like to take a moment and thank a few people for their kindness to me over the past few weeks: Louis, for his dogged determination in pursuit of Justice and also for going above and beyond the bounds of common decency — which is meant as a compliment, by the way; to rewind for taking the time to correspond with me and share some of the secret wisdom of the ages; and to drinking buddy, for db's support and enthusiasm as I grasp for the brass ring during my Year O' Writing.

Oh yes! Thanks also to Lance for his superlative and inspiring thread about chess. One of the few indulgences I have been allowing myself recently — besides NCAA women's basketball — has been playing chess online. It is nice to have another outlet besides GLP to remind me that I have no idea what I'm talking about and to call me an r-tard when I deserve it. Love is a many splendored thing...

TBC-bull

Anyway, today I biked to the Walmart and bought 5 lbs of chicken drumsticks and sour cream and mushrooms — and orange sauce — and I'm baking all those 'sticks in the oven at 325*. This gives me time to decide between an Asian-style rice dish later or some of my patent-pending chicken Stroganoff. Not much else to report except that I'm working on a sci-fi novella at the moment and it occurs to me, once again, that I have no business being behind the keyboard.

On the plus side I restocked the fridge with beer and still have rent money for next month. Life isn't so bad, all things considered.

Thanks again to paranoiaaaaaaa for this fine thread, and blessings to all who post within these hallowed grounds. Coffee joke pending...

Peace and Love to all

I'm pondering some form of steak sammich myself.

I asked Mrs. to cut me a stack of thin slices before she cooked the rest for her.

They are in the fridge, perhaps it is the spirit of the cow mooooooving me to cook it so it will not have died in vain, rather on a farm somewhere in Alberta, awaiting being cooked to perfection in my kitchen.

Hhhhmmm... I have haunted meat!

My dinner looks very sloppy, because I had to use corkscrews, the only pasta I had without BUGS!

gasp

Mr reached the anger hair off the top shelf for me & they were infested. I threw out 6 boxes of pasta. My next project I guess is to get up and wipe everything down.

It still tastes good, but the pasta to sauce ratio is just not right.

Actually, I typed that out on my laptop, not my phone. 1doh1 How accurate though! I was a little upset that I didn't have the pasta I wanted.

I've have never had a bug problem here. Twice I found a few baby cockroaches in my kitchen. I complained and when they went to inspect next door, their kitchen was filthy. Both times, I used Bengal Spray and it takes care of it with one spraying. We have an exterminator that comes once a month, but if you already have bugs, it doesn't get rid of them.

We had roaches in the house when I was a kid. I won't go into it here, let's just say it was bad. I keep it clean. I read the bugs that get in pasta could have been from the factory. It made me feel better anyway! tounge

Oh, we have those, too! My daughter has had to bomb her car twice after finding them.

Years ago, fire ants built a hill up against the building outside. At the time, we were sleeping on a mattress on the floor up against the outside wall. I can't think of a shittier way to wake up than with fire ants biting you!

I must be allergic to them. Mr gets them, they itch & burn, & go away. Mine swell up & pop several times. They leave a mark that stays for what seems like forever.

I must have gotten 20-30 bites that day. I was in hell for a month!

Yikes! We may have a lot of snow, but no evil spiders or fire ants! One spring my entire basement was wall to wall millipedes and that was gross. We were literally sweeping them up by the trash bag full and taking them out to feed the chickens. I weeded around the house and put down diatomaceous earth and we haven't had a problem with them in years.
Also, those darn pantry moths..they also can come into your home in dog food or bird seed, and I suspect bulk purchases from our local health food store :/

Wharf Rat, so kind of you to say hello and mention so many - Glad you are at least finding sustenance in both your writing and your cooking!
I confess to looking forward to more songs someday.

I skipped dinner because I was too tired after a very long work day yesterday and I went to bed early but my body said 5 hours was enough sleep and I should be caught up now thankyouverymuch. So here I am wide awake.

And here is a picture of a past dinner to inspire me tonite. Because, who doesn't like a bacon lattice (also good on apple pie believe it or not)? This was a meatloaf though.

The only I remember back in Ohio was lots of Daddy long legs in the basement. Here in GA, we also the no see ums aka sand gnats. They swarm you & bite the piss out of you. There's always something no matter where you live.

Speaking of that meatloaf, I tried to wrap one in bacon once. It tasted good, but I ended up with a puddle of grease in the bottom of my oven. Maybe I put it in too small of a pan? 1dunno1

It was such a mess, I never tried it again.

Take a pound of really good sausage. We get local spicy breakfast sausage. Brown and break into crumbles in a deep skillet. Add 1/4 to 1/3 c. of flour and cook and stir a bit. Then pour in milk..slowly and stirring constantly. I use about 3 c.
Cook, stirring constantly until it simmers and then season (we like lots of fresh ground pepper and dash of cayenne..more if the sausage isn't spicy, chipotle instead if it is already plenty hot)
I usually make the biscuits from scratch..just the recipe from the baking powder tin. We use Rumfords. But King Arthur Flour's website has some good recipes too, including baking powder biscuits. If you click the arrow on the right hand side of the picture above, you will see the biscuits.

hf

I am IN LOVE with my instant pot tonite. I was outside working all day in snow, wind, and a little sleet. I was too tired to eat after work yesterday then had trouble sleeping last night..so in 40 minutes I made some amazing 13 bean soup in that thing. Holy smokes did it turn out nice and really hit the spot after being chilled to the bone.

My last ho made gravy attempt was a disaster.

Last night's weed was beyond good, it was crippling.

Today I've taken off at noon and just fixed a thin sliced corned beef sammich.

Until your military service has required you neutralize enemy combatants and invaders in the defense of your country,
don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy.
