And Louis, ouch. I have essentially no health care so luckily I am not on any meds. If I have an accident I hope I am killed and not merely injured or maimed because financially it would devastate my family. There isn't much, but enough and I don't want to have it all go to trying to keep me on this planet despite terrible odds.

Beautiful horse! I have not been riding since I was a kid. I miss it. That is the one thing I would get if I won the lottery!

Louis, I understand about the medicine. I just figured out how Mr's insurance works. I'm a little slow.1doh1

After his drug costs reach over $4100 for the year, his share goes up. His 2 diabetic meds that were $70 last month are now over $350. I'm trying to figure out how to get them. He is stubborn though. He says even if we have it, he doesn't want pat that much.

It figures. He just went to the doc and everything was good. His A1C went down to 7 and his goal is to get it under 7. He doesn't want to go back on metformin. It really screws up his gut with cramping.

What the hell?!?!? His cost goes up?

My healthcare is by Anthem. Once we pay either $1,500 or $1,800 in copays [I forget how much], whether they are for Dr. visits, prescriptions, or trips to the E.R. once we reach that limit they cover meds and supplies at 100% and Dr. and hospital visits are a $25 copay.

For example, one of my glaucoma drops is $99 at Anthem's cost to me. So in those cases of high-cost meds I will call or email the manufacturer and get a manufacturer's discount so now my glaucoma drops only cost me $30 because the Mfr. then covers $69 of the cost. And now that we have met the $1,800 maximum those eye drops cost me nothing.

Why the heck such ridiculous differences in what healthcare covers? It's infuriating.

Right? It's called a donut hole. The lady at the drug store told me that so I could look it up.It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of! We have to pay 25% which is about $225 for one & $140 for the other, per month!

We have to spend another $2000 on drugs before the coverage kicks back in. Then in January, it starts again. That is why you hear about older folks having to choose between meds & food.

All doctor & hospital visits are covered 80%, I think after we pay a small deductable for the year, like $200?

The drug deductable is separate, I think $325. Plus the monthly premiums. They're not high compared to private plans, but if you're on SS, it's a lot.
