Great Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter Live Stream!

got all set up to view this, took an hour, invited a friend, showed it to him, between cloud cover, nice but nothing to write home about...the MSM blew this event out of the water like they do other stories... 800 years, my foot this thing happens every 20 years, jupiter and saturn just happen to be closer together the year, friend wasn't impressed, felt like an idiot, took some pictures and just got in the door, all gone, be sure to view this impressing site for the next 7 to 8 days....lol...jupiter will start to move away fast, faster after that time.

The closeness of the conjuncture doesn't happen for hundreds of years. And the significance is that this is the Bethlehem event, Christmas Star.

sad that some people still believe Christ was born in December and believe this to the the Bethlehem Star?.....it is a wonder to see, but I've seen many other amazing events in the night sky, which don't get any MSM Press...Good Luck to Ya'.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion this was an incredibly magical moment. It is so rare to be able to see these two planets in the eyepiece at once like that. They were only 1/10th of a degree apart. That's how high magnification my telescope can be, 1/10th of a degree is the entire field of view. Still, I wanted to image them at the maximum magnification I can achieve, because this is the only time I've ever been able to do that and get both of them to fit. It's the only time that will ever happen in my lifetime. to me it's a bit sad that some people are desensitized to something that's rare and special, but my friends and family who were here watching with me all thought it was very special. We had a second smaller telescope set up to view it directly through the eyepiece. Everyone was wowed by the view.
