I am so sorry I watched it, just premiered on Netflix.

It's like Gravity, only even more depressing and more self-important.

Not one likeable character. Horrible soundtrack for maximum gloom--too slow single cello or piano in creepy minor chords.

No beauty because presumably all green stuff and animals are dead.

You can't breathe the air--"Or you will die if you remove your mask!!"

Clooney directs and stars and wants us maybe to all die in our masks. What a dick.

You are spot on - what an absolutely terrible movie. Also, give this terrible ti me of depression due to COVD deaths and lockdowns, these Hollywood idiots could have put this nonsensical film on cold storage and instead spread cheer.

It was ok, but slit your wrist depressing with a lot of social justice propaganda embedded into it. The science fiction was really really bad, they suddenly discover a NEW moon of Jupiter big enough to colonize? How does THAT happen? I did like some aspects of it though, the human level of the story was pretty good. Also kind of lame that they never really explain what went wrong. What I read online is that supposedly an EMP sets off all the nukes on the planet at once, but they never once mention this. The acting was good though.

All the nuclear weapons silos are heavily shielded, but if a massive EMP struck like that, not only would it disable nuclear weapons so they could not fire, but it probably would kill everyone. There would be zero communications possible.

This films sounds so bad that I think I will see it. It reminds me of the reviewers who hated Greenland. I didn't listen then when they were absolutely correct. I guess I have to see films and decide myself.

Neither Z for Zachariah and The Road showed what happened. That is okay as showing those special effects is quite expensive.

An EMP that occurs from a solar flare is going to affect a spot on the Earth based on the Earth's rotation. So a worldwide EMP would be heavy continual solar flares and there would be other serious effects. That is the premise of Knowing.

I lasted about 20 minutes, then flushed it and went to watch something better.

Just FYI, that something better was "Sweet Home", 10-episode Korean post-apocalypse with no zombies (and there is English dub hidden in the subtitles menu).

F*ck Hollywook self-righteous gloom and doom. And no, that was not a typo.
More deplorable all the time.

Just a Happy version of the 1959 Scif-Fi movie, " On the beach. They even show a scene from it in the movie. Same premise, Nuclear war with radiation clouds commencing to encircle the Earth and end all surface life. Now the guy is drinking whisky and pain pills which appear to cause him to hallucinate some annoying kid. Best part of the movie is its unhappy but happy ending. I like a movie that you cant predict how the good guys will get out safe.

Re: "The Midnight SKY" (boo) and good movies recommended by GLPers
BBC Survivors demonstrates that while woke elements can exist in a production, it does not have to overpower the entire production. Serialized drama can be great as it allows who seasons of character development. In that respect, it is superior to film. Occasionally a film is of sufficient quality that it represents artistic achievement and so of lasting merit in many ways like the quality of the script, excellent cinematography, special effects, acting being appropriate and inspiring, stirring musical soundtracks particularly when original, etc.

One would expect only a few would have any lasting value, and just to be worth producing, would contain some elements that were noteworthy.

Now Hollyweird does not care to hide the facts that they hate us. Hollyweird makes what they want to produce and it is disgusting extreme leftist propaganda with repulsive characters that no ordinary person can feel any ressonance with.

Whatever you think of BBC Survivors, I think there is something for everyone as the production wisely has broad based appeal. Tom is professional thief, probably a bankrobber, and has taken matters into his own hands. But he also seems to regret that and watches out for every survivor in his group. Max Beesley did a fine job. Far later, he continues to do a great job in Jamestown which is a period drama taking place in the New World.

Actually the mother of Iris in this film is played by Sophie Rundle and I thought she did a fine job.

Well when they cast a black man and white woman as Adam and Eve then well, I stopped watching

At every turn media pushes the black man into our conscience?
I’d say that since all of media is simultaneously producing this crap in all its productions, that at this point it’s certain it’s deliberate.

Re: "The Midnight SKY" (boo) and good movies recommended by GLPers
The Midnight Sky does not work as the character is some remote dispassionate borderline mean character who abandoned his wife and daughter, and then when dying tries to save his daughter.

There I spoiled it.

He despairs as the world is ending and he was the one who got astronauts to explore that moon. And his astronaut daughter is pregnant on board the Aether. And he has cancer and regrets being a stupid ass.

That is the film in a nutshell. He is an unreliable narrator who never cares for a little girl who is accidentally left behind, but feels sorry for himself, and pretends he is doing so...finally as he feels remorse over his total disregard for her upbringing.

And anyone watching does not give a shit about this character. This is a terrible script that nobody asked for. And the only reason it is being released is Hollyweird is deperate as the whole year has been a debacle as they are broke due to the contagion.

This character is not noble, he's dying and trying to make amends as the human race, due to having about 10,000 nuclear warheads, followed by a massive solar flare, then has a release of radioactivity. The story is scientific gibberish.

The astronauts are okay, but I seriously doubt they would be so unprofessional on a spacewalk in uncharted space. That is absurd. They are consummate professionals like no others on the planet. Space is the most hazardous environment, and they all know it. They would not be singing and gesturing while using climbing gear on a spaceship arriving back from Jupiter. That is nuts.

The whole premise is bad, with some spectatcular scenes and a few poignant moments.

Who gives a rat's ass about the skin color of the astronauts? That is just bigotry and dumb. That is your issue.

What is dumb is the idea of a globalist mission to space. Europa Report did this as well. Even to this day, the Russians and Chinese have a pitiful history of manned missions. The idea of globalist astronauts is NUTS as they lack the funds to ever mount such a mission.

So why do it? As propaganda and as this film was NOT made for American audiences but to sell to the world as the audience. It is going to be that way from now on.

How can you even be a Christian and care at all about the skin color of couples? What a bunch of small minded weirdos. It is petty. Look, I am not remotely attracted to most women, just Christian ladies who area tiny subset. It isn't their skin color, but lack of virtue that repels me.

I watched it yesterday and its not that bad but we have seen better ones.
Clooney promotes the known script that politicians and hollywood want to push down our throats.

(dont read down if you want to watch it)

The "event" happened but we dont know what it was. It was an envirenmental catastroph.
We caused it.
People live underground but will probably not survive.
The only survivors is a mixed couple of astronauts, the man is black and the woman is white and pregnant (by him).
This couple will revive the human race.
They will live on a moon of Jupiter that can hold life.

The Day After Tomorrow is riddled with scientific inaccuracies so much that it was ruthlessly mocked. It also has such tender poignant moments and has a great script.

That is a fine post-apocalyptic film about a scientist who is "woke" and realizes severe climate change is coming. Then acts like a detective and consults with a peer who also finds data, then another peer who also finds data, and then severe climate change then horrendously damages the world between certain lattitudes.

Then sets up a scenario so we have to beg Mexico to save American citizens.

YUCK! The ideas are extreme leftists' wet dreams. But at least it is entertaining with people of all kinds acting heroically as they feel they are doomed and trying to save others.

I hated the premise, but enjoyed the film enough that I have watched it 5 times.
