You probably would like Z for Zachariah as Ann the survivor who manages to hold on to her humanity survives with Pharoah her dog. There are a lot of cute scenes where she interacts with her dog. He helps her catch rabbits who got out from traps and snares, wants to jump on the bed, runs alongside of the farm equipment as she drives it.

No, you just like American films. Anyone who likes Hitchcock's Notorious in not lowbrow.

I hope you like Stake Land. That isn't for rocket scientists.

There is zero benefit to have an account or even to always be the same AC as in Opera facilitates web browsing anonymously for 360 million, the AC#s change all the time.

Youmght like Here Alone. That is an independent zombie film where a lady is stuck by herself and slowly the story reveals she began as a wife and mom. She helps a father and his daughter try to survive. Few people have seen it. Lucy Walters plays the protagonist and does a fine job.

Lunapolis (2010) is a great time travel film, but contains doom as government operatives keep changing the timeline. It was filmed as a student project.

My favorite modern novel,in case you missed it, is Tropic of Night by Michael Gruber, and the two Jimmy Paz sequels. Mysticism in Miami.

The Pendergast series by Preston and Child is also fabulous, full of hidden secrets.

I will probably return to being an ac soon myself. Used to have so many good connections here 15 years ago or so. Gone way downhill, but what's the alternative?

thanks, gonna watch it pronto. My oldest dog is sick, and I spend a lot of time just lying around with him and pushing him in his giant stroller.

You might like The Believers (1987). A man becomes a widow and tries to care for his young child. The little one finds a voodoo amulet, and the practioners want to sacrifice him. It is full.of supernatural elements.

Similarly The Skelton Key has a lady RN who takes a job caring for a man who is an invalid, but something is seriously wrong in that home as hoodoo is being practiced as she finds clues everywhere. The invalid is not who she thinks he is.

If you want to watch some quirky and funny at times yet has supernatural elements, the Norwegian film Troll Hunter has some young people helping a genuine Troll Hunter who uses a variety of tactics to turn them into stone. It is a very different kind of monster film.

Angel Heart (1987) is a neo-noir supernatural horror mystery film, a rather famous one. You should watch as the credits roll as he enters Hell. Many don't even know that part of the film exists.

I can't watch anything with George Clooney because he seems dead inside to me, and every movie he's in sucks.

This one was no exception. I only watched it because it was post apocalyptic. I shouldn't have wasted my time.

Turned it off after the inevitable race mixing romance scene.

2 black astronauts. Not a single asain, Indian or Mexican, but 2 blacks.

Really weird music that didn't match the scenes.

SYNOPSIS:

GEORGE CLUNNIES DAUGHTER IZ HAVING a half black baby!

Uhhhh...did you watch the movie? Crewmen Sanchez was the designated Mexican. No Asians.

After getting the white woman pregnant, the black guy normally would have run away...but, it was space.

Also, the black guy kept bragging about what a genius he is at math. (totally unrealistic)

I am so sorry I watched it, just premiered on Netflix.

It's like Gravity, only even more depressing and more self-important.

Not one likeable character. Horrible soundtrack for maximum gloom--too slow single cello or piano in creepy minor chords.

No beauty because presumably all green stuff and animals are dead.

You can't breathe the air--"Or you will die if you remove your mask!!"

Clooney directs and stars and wants us maybe to all die in our masks. What a dick.

Possessor (2020) is an intresting scifi film. In the near future, certain people who have latent psychic ability are hired to become assassins. They are paid to eliminate a target and find someone who can get close to that target for a brief time. Then drug that person and the psychic possesses them. Then posing as them, get close to the target, assassinate them, and then kill the possessed person, and break the contact.

The process dehumanizes them so as time goes by, they lose their previous identity and become just a useful weapon for that agency.

This agency then not only kills the target but ends up over time controlling their assets and so enriches themselves.

It is surprisingly well done with an excellent script, reversals, twists even up to the last. It is well acted and fascinating throughout. Nothing seemed woke about it.

Red Planet (2000) is a very fine space film with Val Kilmer and Carrie Anne Moss. It was panned by the critics as one of the astronauts is religious and that offended their sensibilities. See scientific astronauts are supposed to be godless. What stupidity.

Regardless it has a compelling story with a murder, a robot gone rogue, dangerous alien creatures, and people marooned and trying to figure out a way to go home using science.

There is nothing wrong with this film. I give it a 7.5.

Re: "The Midnight SKY" (boo) and good movies recommended by GLPers
In cinema, writer of the script has characters speak on behalf of issues so dialogue exists. If the answer is certain, it is boring and become lecturing. If this is overt, then the film is propaganda and most often be jarring to the audience. They know it feels "wrong".

So in Bokeh, a young couple have this dialogue where the husband is traditional and young and is optimistic. He wants for them to make a life in Iceland. The wife is pessimistic. She is in love, but cannot fathom a life wthout her friends and family. This is exacerbated on purpose to create conflict when they find an old bitter nihilist who then pushes the wife into extreme pessimism. Then the nihilist dies as his character has been the catalyst and is no longer required.

This goes way overboard in Only (2019).
[link to m.youtube.com (secure)]

The husband is African American and his wife is from India. He intuits that the ash falling from a meteor has caused severe outbreak at the medical center as they arrived as her best female friend is stricken. He acts fast to set up a quarantine so she is isolated and protected from the meteor ash.

She hates being isolated and tries to remain homeful as all the women in a support group online in a chatroom end up dying. The federal government violates all natural rights and forces or tries to persuade by violence, and have the women be test subjects.

Later she realizes they are harvesting all the remaining ovum so they can perpetuate the human race. Hunters are violent men who make money capturing hiding women. All others have perished by hemorrhaging.

She becomes totally rebellious and self-destructive and consistently breaks protocol. The reason the film fails is she become suicidal as she feels she is in a cage as men become carriers and millions die as their husbands infect the remaining women. And her husband is a carrier and she feels she cannot live without intercourse.

It is nonsense. But then it becomes woke nonsense as the evil hunters are white and are killed by the couple. The hunters capture her husband and he tells her to run,but what isn't known is she left her shelter, exposed herself, and is dying anyway by choice.

Hollyweird is increasing woke and nihilistic and saying there is no meaning, no point of existence, and no hope. All white men perpetuate patriarchy. It is an infuriating piece of garbage propaganda.
