NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A large explosion in downtown Nashville on Second and Broadway near Commerce Street occurred around 6:30 am. This is a developing situation but heavy black smoke is rising above the affected area.

There is a large police presence in this area along with fire crews. News 2 has reached out to Metro Police and The Fire Department to learn more. News 2 reporter Elizabeth Lane is working to get more information.

I am from this area, had family in lebanon area get ahold of us we are in Alabama for Christmas, said about 6:30ish teir hiuse shook from a large resounding boom lebanon to Nashville as the crow flies is 35-40 miles. Look at the fscebook video i posted possible IED , listening to scanners people talking about gunfire before explosion!!!!

Witness said gunfire so intense they barricaded themselves in their apartment. Police evacuated area and then explosion. It's been said on channel 2 multiple times.
