Re: My Dad passed away from COVID today.
My Dad died today. He was 84, yet the man was healthy as a horse and had far more energy than I have on my best days. He ate healthy. He worked 6 days per week. He spent his time off clearing out dead trees from his wooded acreage in the back. He stopped smoking almost 20 years ago. He would enjoy a shot or two of whisky and a single beer every night. He had no underlying conditions.

He apparently took lunch with someone who was later diagnosed with COVID-19. A few days later, he showed a slight fever...just over 100. It returned to normal in the evening. This process repeated itself for about three days...a slight fever in the late afternoon that would then subside. After the first day, my Mom called their doctor who scheduled a COVID test for him. It took another day to get the test and then two days after to get the results. On that my Friday we learned he was positive.

That Sunday, two Sundays ago, he lost his balance while going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. He was unhurt, but seemed slightly disoriented. My Mom called his doctor, who said to take him to the emergency room. She had to wait a bit to settle him as he refused an ambulance. They immediately placed him in the ICU.

We watched him, for almost two weeks, slowly deteriorate. While he was never placed on a ventilator, they could never get his blood oxygen levels back up. He fought the mask, the IV, and the rest and he had to be sedated and restrained. Early this afternoon, my Mom was summoned to his room so she could say goodbye. The nurse was kind enough to facilitate a Zoom call so his children and grandchildren could be there. We literally watched him die. We watched him take his final breath. It was devastating.

Today, Dec 31, was my Mom and Dad’s wedding anniversary.

Today was the cherry on top of the shit sundae that was 2020.

I am sorry for your loss. Many people on here do not even believe that the virus exists. Kind of funny as we all tracked it when it first hit Wuhan in 2019, then watched it spread all over the world. Perhaps it is some kind of coping mechanism for the folks that deny the virus exists. Perhaps the fear has gotten to them. The waiting game of life or death.
Jesus said: He who seeks, let him not cease seeking until he finds; and when he finds he will be troubled, and when he is troubled he will be amazed, and he will reign over the All.

Keep calling it mental illness.

OP-

Sorry for your loss. One death is one too many and the human cost is intolerable regardless of what led up to it.

I have a few questions which are asked for the sake of clinical relevance.

Once diagnosed, what medications were prescribed?

Was there a daily zinc regimen started/maintained?

Was there a daily vitamin C regimen started/ maintained?

Was there a vitamin D regimen started/maintained?

I realize these questions may seem like they intend to place blame for the death on some action or inaction of health professionals... but please realize... we cannot improve without comparing data on what works vs what doesn't help.

There are millions of us out here who need to know what helps.

We are taking vitamin C, D, Zinc and an ionophore every day on which we leave the house. Letting us know one or more of these were ineffective will help us stretch our supply of the remainder.

What were his habits? Strict isolation, "ah, what's the fuss?", or 50/50?

Not asking for blame, but for info that might save lives.

For instance... we sterilize every item that enters this household... did they? If so, how? We use UV & ozone for mail and small stuff... for big stuff we use cleanser and mop-down. Did they, or just chance it?
 Quoting: Graboid_Hunter

I understand your need to try to understand and maybe compile data, but I don’t have much information as to what medications or treatments he was on in the hospital. I know he was on a forced-air system...delivering massive amounts of oxygen.

I’ll say this...I know that part of his daily regimen included vitamins. Additional and higher doses of vitamin C and zinc always at the onset of any cold symptoms. He also maintained a very good diet based around Mediterranean/Italian eating high in fiber and low in saturated fats. A lot of beans, broths, tomatoes, garlic, olive oils, fish, chicken, etc. Little to no sugars or sweets.

His state is Pennsylvania, under mask mandates, gathering limits, dining closures, etc...although his workplace (his business) was likely pretty lax. I think my Mom backed off of their sterilization and very strict controls around the summertime. I doubt my Dad took it all that seriously.

why was he on a ventilator? they keep you alive before you die so family can get to you also they kill people recovering...

 Quoting: Larphillips

It was a stupid question.

Sorry about your dad. I am on day 9 with covid and still have that slight temp thing and am tired all the time - but I guess I got lucky.

The mucus this virus generates in the lungs is different than the cold / flu. It is so thick. My 16 year old also has covid and her oxygen dropped from 100% down to 92% by day 4... and now back up to 100%. She had a heck of a problem with coughing for a week.

We can thank her mother for going to see an elderly lady in a senior home who was sick. Duh. The next day the old lady was diagnosed with covid and a few days later my wife got sick and then the rest of us did.

A good reminder for everyone to up your D3 levels and have supplies on hand like ivermectin, because by the time you are sick it is mostly out of your hands.

My dad died from cancer 23 years ago. It was a blessing and curse to hold him and watch him take his last breaths. The death rattle, purple fingernails and clouded eyes still haunt me.
My mom died 10 years ago on a vent alone in hospital from cancer. I wished to be there, but missed it. Couldn't face going to see her body after she left. Death of a parent sucks. Hospitals suck, but they clean things up. Covid is real and sucks.
Your dad died too soon. I am happy you got him til 84, but it's still hard dealing with death. Peace to you and your family. I hope your mom keeps well, this shiz has a 12 day window some think has closed and then still comes back to get you worse. I pray for health, healing and defeat of this illness, all illness cause cancer is a damn bitch too. Hang in there, focus on life, it goes on. Celebrate vitality.
