Who here has an Oculus?
Hey guys...I got an Oculus for Christmas and while it is very cool...(I've played Beat Saber, rollercoasters, and Everest VR) and a few others namely Dash Dash and Dreadhalls...

Those two make me sick after only playing for like 5 minutes...Does the motion sickness ever go away? I've played like 5 times now and it seems like I can go a little longer than before but then it kicks in...

But it doesn't' when I'm on the roller coaster or Beat Saber...well perhaps a tiny bit...but I can get through it.

Overall though a very interesting experience and life like. I really enjoyed the Everest VR and plan to buy the Egypt one later today :)

Re: Who here has an Oculus?
It's all those twists and turns and the fast play at the same time that does it. I just hope it goes away so I can enjoy the game fully.

Yes , but you have to train your brain. Physical exercise helps. Try jumping, running or swinging, also martial artists have lower amounts of motion sickness.

Youre getting motion sickness because you are untrained.

Let me ask you how long do you stay sick when the motion sickness hits you while playing games with the VR glasses?
I had the Sony PSVR and I read it's different from real motion sickness, which goes away pretty fast when e.g. you leave the boat.
It will stay with you for many hours even after you have stopped playing.
It may sound weird, but at least in my case it was true. I was still sick for many hours after I have stopped playing.

Re: Who here has an Oculus?
I do have an Oculus, as well as an Index and a Pimax 5,000. (Valve Index is the best over all system right now, but Oculus is a great starting point. The Pimax has the best field of view and graphics, of course.)

There are some tricks to not feeling nauseous in VR that I have picked up over the last year or so.

1. Actually move your body and head to turn, whenever possible. Real movement means no sickness from it. 100% of the time.

2. If you have to use the controls to move, doing so in a forward and back ward configuration is always fine. Smooth turns and moving left and right are things that will make you sick, almost instantly.

So use the snap turn option! It's a bit immersion breaking, but you do get used to it.

3. You do get your "VR Legs" after about ten hours or so. Most of that is in learning what not to do, that makes you feel ill.

4. If you start to feel sick, stop immediately, instead of pushing through.

5. Some games are designed better than others. If they keep making you feel sick, find a different game or experience to partake in! The newer things tend to be better than the older ones, as developers are learning a lot about what makes a good VR experience.

Clearly, VR is a young technology. It's growing in popularity and as it advances, will be a greater portion of many peoples lives. I hope this information helps! The most important part of this is that you have fun.

Remember to blink or you’ll find your eyes dry out quickly. VR is great but it’s good to take breaks frequently and like others have said, you’ll get used to it the more you play. Half-life Alyx is good if you want to try a scary game.

Elite Dangerous is amazing for sense of scale. But you really need a flight stick to enjoy it.

Lone Echo is also a great space game. The space ones give you the expansive experience that you can’t experience anywhere else.

Google Earth is pretty fun too.

I got one for Christmas as well. I am a martial artist and train every day , I too experienced some vertigo afterwards . I have the saints and sinners game and have put in a few 2 hour sessions followed by some saber swinging in Vader Immortal. For the first day or two I felt some noticeable discomfort directly after playing . It wasnt long , maybe a couple minutes . I don’t get uneasy anymore directly after , but I have noticed a floating feeling while walking every once in a while . There can be some neck issues over time too ! The headsets are heavy and can cause some soreness near the top of your spine and base of your skull.
What an amazing system though ! I LOVE the swordplay in Vader immortal and am looking forward to purchasing some HEMA style games . Swords , shields and spears , sounds fun to me !
