XCOM 2 - Story vs Reality
So, I know it's a game and the situation is much different, but having played it a bit recently some of the background conversation surprised me as I didn't remember it well.

Basically the premise is that aliens attacked and took over the world. You are playing as XCOM trying to take back over after 20 years of subjugation. The aliens control mostly the city centers and force as many as possible inside the major cities. They have gene clinics set up where they manipulate DNA creating various human/alien hybrids. The most common "troopers/officers" are very human like and use a special helmet designed to cover a large portion of their face so the public doesn't see them as alien.

Some example dialog:

Tygan: "ADVENT has made steady progress in convincing the remaining civilian populace to migrate to their cities centers. With the propaganda campaign providing a constant stream of reminders as to the benefits of migration, they have maintained a steady influx of new converts. Unfortunately, most of these unwitting refugees have little idea what they are truly signing up for."

Tygan: "At one time, I was employed as a biochemist in the pharmaceutical industry, mainly researching vaccine production techniques. Because of my background, I was rounded up by ADVENT and put to work in one of the very first gene therapy clinics. I saw first-hand what their technology is capable of, for better or worse."

Tygan: "Having worked in one of the facilities, I can tell you first hand, they do offer a level of medical care unmatched by any previous effort in our history. The aliens have effectively cured all of humanity's greatest ailments...Cancer, Malaria, AIDs. The process is relatively simple."

Central: "...And I'm not sure I'd trade having a chip in my head for a few hot meals and the cure for the common cold."

Tygan: "Yes-the price of admission is acceptance of all ADVENT policies. For many people, that's hardly a consideration-a minor inconvenience at most."

Central: "You're wrong about that, Doctor. We can offer them freedom, even if it means they have to endure the pains of being human."

The various propaganda pieces in the game are of course way over the top, but the underlying theme and elements are eerily familiar. With many comparing CV to the common cold (not without reason), the goals of 2030 and getting people crammed into the cities so they can be better tracked/controlled, the mRNA treatments that can do who knows what to you. They even mention a quote "nothing like giving your ID to a lamp post". Given the "smart lamp post" thing with the Nashville bomb recently...

There is more of course. Just weird living in this weird coming sci-fi dystopia. V for Vendetta, Wag the Dog, They Live!, various others all crammed into one crazy reality.
