Strike Could Cancel CBS Debate
the following may not be exactly what the candidates really said. The OP took creative artistic license (he is not in the "Writer's Guild" and is not on strike, so he can edit this post and still honor the Writers Guild strike) and has edited what the candidates said to more accurately reflect what they meant. At least in the OP's opinion.
John "I'm so pretty" Edwards joined striking writers on the picket line in front of CBS’s Burbank studios last week. Most of the Democratic candidates for president said today that they would skip the Dec. 10 presidential debate sponsored by CBS News if news writers decide to strike.
“I have nothing to say if it is not written by a writer and OKed by my army of censors,” Hillary Clinton said in a statement today.
A strike by CBS news writers does not appear to be imminent, although an authorization vote conducted last week allows the leadership of the guild to call a strike at any time. The company’s writers, producers, editors, artists and assistants have been working without a contract since April 2005.
The cancellation of the debate, which is to be moderated by Katie Couric in Los Angeles, would strike a significant blow to CBS News.
In a statement this afternoon, the writers’ guild said the statements by the candidates “sends a powerful message that if the candidates responses to questions is not written by a guilded writer than it isn't acceptable.”
Less than a week after becoming the first candidate to visit the picket lines in Southern California, John "I'm so pretty" Edwards and wife Elizabeth said today that they had canceled their scheduled appearance on the ABC talk show “The View” next week “because they have nothing to say if their writer is on strike”
Later in the day, Michelle Obama, wife of candidate Barack Obama, said she had also canceled her scheduled Dec. 5 co-hosting of “The View.”
“I can't think of anything to say and if my writers are on strike then I am speechless ... so to speak"
