Dad Dies After Accidentally Shooting Son At Deer Feeder
Man Apparently Thought Son Was Deer

POSTED: 10:47 pm EST November 29, 2004

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. -- A father accidentally shot and killed his son at a deer feeder and then died of a heart attack, authorities said Monday.

The Medical Examiner´s Office in Jacksonville confirmed that Ronald McKenna Jr., 33, died from what appeared to be an accidental gunshot wound. His father, Ronald McKenna Sr., 54, died of a heart attack.

The younger McKenna went into the woods on Thanksgiving Day near Keystone Heights to check on a deer feeder, Clay County sheriff´s spokeswoman Mary Justino said. His father saw movement around the feeder that he reportedly thought was a deer. He fired one shot, killing his son. The elder McKenna then suffered a fatal heart attack.

Justino said the investigation continued, but investigators believed there was no evidence of foul play.

How tragic.

I really feel for the mother and wife of these two guys. How horrible must she be feeling?

I work for a hunting store. I feel like I´m in la la land. These people aren´t right in the head.

Quitting there next week.

Most people tend to see what they want to see, not necessarily what´s really there.

As a wife and mother, my heart goes out to this wife/mom.

Gun Control? What for? They´re killing themselves off.

My friends´s father wants the National Guard to train all the gang members to shoot. That way, when they aim at each other, they will hit each other, instead of Grandma sitting on the porch or some two year-old in the yard.

How do we know that this father thought his son was a deer at the feeder? The father died of a massive heart attack - who knows what he thought or thought he saw or meant to do.

Anyway, Dad there aimed and hit what he aimed at. Good Shot.

When using or storing a gun, always follow these NRA rules:

• Know your target and what is beyond.
Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second.*

*Disregard this rule if in Falluja.

Tragic....I wish hunters would reread the part about confirming target before firing..."thought was a deer" isn´t good enough....wonder if alcohol played a part...I mean you do have to aim & pick a spot on the target, not shoot in the general direction...

I feel bad for the son, but FUCK THE FATHER!

This lazy asshole had a feeder set up for deer at the edge of his woods so that when they came up to it to eat he could shoot them. This is highly illegal in most states (I know it is here in Ohio) and ONLY PUSSIES HUNT THIS WAY!

If you truly are the son of the younger Ronnie, I am sorry for your loss. I'm sure this has been very traumatic for you and your family.

But replying to this garbage thread won't bring closure, and it won't chastise the original authors of this shitty comments. It will only invite MORE sociopaths and mental defects to crawl out of the woodwork. Don't waste your time.

You bumped a thread with no activity in 12 years to lash out at the handful of people who responded to it over a decade ago in defense of a guy who fired at "movement" instead of an identified target.

Go away troll.
