This has NOTHING to do with religion and EVERYTHING with GREED.... Kalimantan, Sumatera, totally devastated, mostly by palm oil, but also logging, mining you name it.... These companies come in, destroy everything and cause unimaginable suffering and poverty, there isn't a whole lot left in Kalimantan and Sumatera so now they are devastating West Papua at break-neck speed, a lot of this is done by people from Malaysia, Singapore, Arabs, South Koreans with the help of corrupt local officials to get their mostly illegal licences.... Joshua Oppenheimer who made those incredible movies The Act Of Killing and The Look Of Silence was actually working on a film about all this, his focus was about how those companies force people to work at those palm oil plantations for slave wages. The women are forced to spray insectides without any protection and they die before they're 40 from various kinds of cancer. Some of these women tried to organize something, not even for better wages but for masks and gloves, the police/army/hired thugs came in. raped, tortured and murdered a bunch of them, that's how it goes here.... I could write pages about this stuff, the cement factories here in Java, what they are doing to the people in Kulong Progo in Middle Java, the devastation here in West-Java with the new high speed train from Bandung to Jakarta and so much more.... A very good site to read all about all this stuff is: [link to www.mongabay.com (secure)] And this is excellent too: [link to thegeckoproject.org (secure)] Also this VERY good book by Elizabeth Fuller Collins, Indonesia Betrayed: How Development Fails Really, an amazing read, goes back decades when during the Suharto dictator ship deforestation etc. started.... [link to www.goodreads.com (secure)] They are planning to move the capital Jakarta to Kalimantan, a total bitch move in my opinion and it will only exacerbate the problems there (and also leaving Jakarta with all it's heavy problems behind)...
