Quoting: REaliZe That’s why they all talk about how angry it makes them, yet realize they can do nothing to stop it. Banning and blocking an exchange or two will just make direct, on-chain transactions more viable. The system is untouchable. It truely is. Even if all banks in the world would block it. Too many people have invested in it already for it to fall. It just means that people will use other means to convert it into money, by first turning it into consumer goods then selling the consumer goods for fiat. Cocaine is illegal too, property is truly a democratic idea where it's value is decided by the amount of people believing it has a value. Location: Sweden |

User ID: 78585945 United States 01/19/2021 05:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What Yellen said has been true since the invention of bitcoin and crypto currencies. However, what her comment really means for the crypto space is that all crypto exchanges like coinbase will have to know your identity by using (KYC) before they allow you to purchase, sell or transfer bitcoin and any other crypto coins. Quoting: Pookiegus It's slowly been happening the last few years. It's not bitcoin that's the problem. It's anonymous transfers that could allow all the bad stuff Yellen talks about to happen. The government knows it can't stop bitcoin unless they shut off the power grid world-wide. . . so instead they go after the places where bitcoin is bought and sold. First in this country and then overseas. Even exchanges overseas have started asking for proof of identity before they give your an account that lets you move large amounts of crypto. They have also been blocking American users from accessing their sites for the past few years. Once the exchange knows your identity the government,if it needs to, can easily find out your history and track all of your bitcoin because everything is public on the bitcoin blockchain. With untraceable crypto privacy coins like monero this KYC plan still works. Eventually the bad guys will need to cash them in or exchange them on an exchange for Fiat currency and that's where they know your identity. So that's how I think they will control things moving forward. The government just wants their cut of the action. For many years the crypto space has been like the wild west or like an off shore bank account. . . It has been slowly changing during Trump's presidency and I imagine it will continue with Biden's more rapidly. Just pay your taxes on crypto when you cash in and you will be fine! |

If I have bitcoin on cold storage, I can just hand you the device and you can just, say, give me "your" land. User ID: 78585945 United States 01/19/2021 06:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The open source bitcoin client was released January 2009. The value of bitcoin was negotiated on bitcoin forums in the early days. Famously, someone bought two Poppa John's pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins back then. So, early on you traded them on forums or IRC but you had to trust that the other person would deliver on their side of the transaction. The exchanges came next. The first was bitcoinmarket.com that launched in March 2010. This is what helped establish a real time value of bitcoin in USD. Bitcoin value was initially priced at $0.003 – that’s 333 BTC to the dollar on the first exchange. Bitcoinmarket.com initially accepted paypal as a means of exchanging bitcoin for Fiat Currency. Then came the scammers and after a string of fraudulent trades paypal was removed from the site. In February 2011 the dark web market Silk Road launched which helped propel bitcoin's adoption. In July 2011 the infamous Mt. Gox exchange launched and by 2014 was handling 70% of all bitcoin transactions. Coinbase - the largest exchange in US was founded in June 2012. In June 2015 coinbase exchange was launched for professional crypto traders and was later rebranded as Global Digital Asset Exchange (GDAX) |

Doesn't have to. As soon as there is a penalty attached to it, such as jail time, people will flee from it and its value will plummet. I'm not predicting this will happen, but it seems silly to believe the U.S. government is incapable of having a dramatic effect on bitcoin if they really pursued all options. Time will tell as to how far they are willing to go. Like Drugs? Like Embezzling taxpayer funds? Like stealing an election? pfft The universe is basically an animal. It grazes on the ordinary. User ID: 66657024 United States 01/19/2021 06:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Honestly I think bitcoin is doomed. Not because I don't like the concept, but because of the sheer computing power needed to process transactions. I think they said the blockchain is up to like 250 gb right now. Blackouts in random countries are being blamed on it. Not sure how true it is or isn't but it does require a massive amount of power. The more people using it, the more power its going to consume. So if it's causing blackouts allegedly and it's not even being used as currency widely, I don't think it could ever be widely adopted for everyday use. Plus, all they have to do is make it illegal. They didn't even make XRP illegal, just alleged it was a security and the price tanked over 50%. If they made it illegal to own, all these institutions that have been driving up the price would bail because they wouldn't be able to offer it in portfolios legally. And most retail average joes would want no part of criminal penalties. Not saying it would go to zero but a loss of 75% of its value that would never return isn't out of the question. |

They fail to do simple research and will forever be left out. If people listened to these fools in here, they'd be poor by now. BTC and ETH just getting started. The train has left the station on BTC and coming up by summer into fall, for ETH too, as 2.0 development progresses succesfully. Most of the masses will be left behind and never own any, but that is fine cause the institutions are the ones driving the price much higher. Incidentally, those two facts are why main cryptos here to stay and wont be banned but regulated. |
