Any knife collectors in here? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77167563 Denmark 01/19/2021 08:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just need the smithing skills, i can buy a blade and make the handle, put it together, the smithing part is on my bucket list though, but if you can make the blades and the handles, you can sell custom made blades for all kinds of work, be it leather works, wood carving, fishing, cooking, defence and make a living (well in theory) I have about 2k in knife making material, and equipment, just not a workshop to set it up in. I even have a couple bundles of small Solingen blanks that came from a now defunct Solingen factory in Germany. I plan on making handles for them. I also have some leather work tools, but have no leather or experience shaping it for sheaths. The biggest thing I lack is a dedicated work space and someone to help me muse in a productive manner. You can buy 3-5 pound bags of left over leather from furniture cuts at most leather shops, its fairly cheap, you just need a needle for leather stitching, a hole pucher, some leather rivets and a sturdy thread. I recon youd need the thicker leather cuts though, talk to the shop keep i bet he has some left overs. |

I'm a knerd about modern folding knives and I can't believe how far these new supersteels have come. If you are a knerd, you can happily watch these videos in their entirety I am a nerd for folders as well. Have a few fixed blade knives. I do have a Gerber Silver Trident, from around 2003-2004, made in the USA and A+ condition. Also a few fixed Benchmades. I love the folders though and the more exotic steels like M390, 204P, 20CV, S45VN, M4, etc. Yeah, it's amazing how many great blade steels there are now. I have a benchmade with M390 coming in the mail next week. I want to try something with the Maxamet and the Rex 45. They are supposed to be monsters as far as edge retention. |

If I had to pick a favorite it would be my 1969 Vietnam fighting knife made by Randall, like new with original sheath and sharpening stone. But I also have many Case knives from many different decades...stag handle in green is one of my best case from 1940's circa. Everyday carry is Benchmade of which I have a few! Great thread idea, should be interesting over time! PLATA BITCHEZZZZZZ UPGRADE UNAVAILABLE The Rolling Stones said it best... "What's confusing you is the nature of my game" |

Am ready to get my inner Forged in Fire going on!! Oh, I have many different types of blades (farm life) but for self defense purposes when not carrying firearm, it's a karambit for me, for sure. And thought struggles against the results, trying to avoid those unpleasant results while keeping on with that way of thinking. That is what I call 'sustained incoherence.' ...David Bohm “How, O Zenobia, hast thou dared to insult Roman emperors?” ...Aurelian, 44th Emperor of the Roman Empire |

Quoting: Apollonius 78234183 I was fortunate enough to meet a gentleman from Kentucky while I was in DC. I helped him and he gifted me a Buck 112 Ranger with the s30v Bos heat treat. It's not slim though. On the contrary. It's pretty beefy. Made of white bone/antler. It has a light engraving on one side with 2019 and the other with what may be his name. He told me that he sold them. He then gave my daughter a mossy oak Kryptek. Won't forget that guy. |

You should check out the new slim lines they have a pocket clip. that's what we all love about knives I believe, is the story behind them. You pick up the knife, you take it out of the sheath or unfold it and the memories come flooding back in.... Pictures of dogs and grandpas and paths through the woods... |
