Dissolution of the Union would be much more practical. Decentralizing the government and forming autonomous Republics would be the way to go. This has been written about and discussed for decades, maybe it is time to do this.
When the Union was formed, there were only thirteen Colonies with similar and shared thoughts and beliefs. Now we are 50 states with very dissimilar beliefs and objectives.
It has happened before in the history of empires, who the hell do we think we are that it cannot or should not happen to us.
