Hey CDC ALT.

There's a Discord channel called Friends of Alcoholics Anonymous with hundreds of people that are online at all times.

They would love to welcome you in there. :)

Thank you for suggesting that path for him to take if he wishes.
All my best to you OP.
It is really about what you want, your choice, and how you want to live.
My Girlfriend is sober again thank Goodness.
You can.

My personal thoughts & posts are mine alone.
I Love God, Jesus, good people, and the U.S.A. the way the Framers signed the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
In my real world life I don't have a problem with standing up to those with solid evidence of corruption from either side, of any issue or place. Many are they in this world that need to be rooted out.
That makes me a target to be destroyed by very powerful people, I understand this.
At some point we have to stand up for what is right before God. I have done this, lived this way, and will continue to do so till they finish me off or I croak of natural causes.

Your right i watched this guy on YouTube months ago was pretty informative. I will learn the embed feature and post. Goes over what you addressed. Most think it takes a year or better to break that path in the brain.. And if you slip back into the behavior that path is relearned verry quick

Hey OP, please look into using denatured potato starch before bed.
It’s super cheap, great for your good gut bacteria, and helps get a good night sleep.
Simple to use too, at night, stir in a teaspoon of it (not heaping) into a glass of water, then go to bed. You will fall asleep quicker and and feel well rested in the morning.
I’ve used it before and it really worked for me.
Lots of info about in online, here is one article about it.

It's like just a bad habit instead of addiction for me.. Need to make some new good habits
 Quoting: CDC ATL

About 12 years ago, I went through a drinking phase for almost a year. I was living in a miserable situation and drank myself silly every night. I thought I was an alcoholic and that it would probably kill me. It was awful.

Then I finally moved out of that environment, and 2 weeks after the move, I realized I hadn't had a single drink or even thought about it since the move.

I think one good idea is to change your surroundings somehow.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

I have seen this thread hanging around for a few visits to GLP...but tonight I really saw it.

My daughter just said the same thing to me tonight... alcohol was like a demon... she just spent the last 10 days in solitary confinement in Portland, OR area of all places due to her own stupid decisions...but I am afraid.

Synchronicity seems to me our latent psychic abilities bringing us to people and experiences that fit...which led me here tonight... I wish you well, I am going to continue reading your thread.

Dont do it dude youll fall right back into the routine. Trust me coming from a hardcore acoholic binge drinker. If it makes you feel better im going on a week and trying to stay sober also, you dont want to evemtually develop withrawals its fucking terrible. Feel like your gonna have a heart attack, you shake from high blood pressure and the sleep hardly comes until day three. Stay strong. Just dont put it to your lips.

Some of you have really shitty genes and should not drink at all.

I pounded down a 12-18 pack nightly for 20 years until I was 45. However, I dieted strictly and worked out twice daily the whole time.

Gave it up out of boredom a few years back and I'm still built like a brick and leaner than most teenagers at 11% bodyfat.

Evidently it pays off to have superior German and Irish genes.

Personally, I fell to my knees and prayed for help to quit the drinking.

Something wild happened.

Now having 2 beers makes me feel sick.

Once in a while I'll still try to have a couple, then remember the good effects I used to get from it vanished.

I did the same thing got down on my knees and prayed. I was drinking a quart of vodka a day and it's been 32 years since I prayed and I have not had the urge nor a drink. Praise be to God

Enjoy it while it lasts. It doesn’t last long.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46642358

Speak for yourself. I was having a drink or two a day and decided to just stop. I"m open to having a drink on occasion if there's a reason, but have only had a couple over the last two years. It made little difference in my life other than the budget.

For those who hesitate - yes, it can be done! I just inherited the entire contents of a home bar and haven't opened a single bottle.

After a while, every addiction wears out. The key is to recognize that before you cause real harm to yourself.

Broke my back when I was 14 and didn’t know my spine fused before anyone knew how bad it was. I’m 28 now and 3-6 shots is the only way I can fall asleep. At least I kept myself off pills. I’ve been to three surgeons and no one will touch it until I quote can’t function in daily life. So I wait all day until I can drink the knife blade stuck between my shoulder blades away. I know how you feel. I am hopeful the Botox injections for pain expand, but they have a lot or risks as well.

Just remember, the next 24h is what really matters, don’t create plans for the future, just put focus in the present day. Lot’s of water, Vit C and fresh food. Weed only for relaxing your body and calming down your thoughts. If you have a strong craving, only lasts for 5 minutes, eat a candy and it will disappear. Before bedtime, a warm shower and a glass of milk.

Praying for you all,hf

Me too.

I'm almost a full year since last glass of wine.
I was WAY overdoing it. Like many of you I was functioning but a little blurry, didn't feel good, and worried constantly about my liver.

Here's a thing that has helped me.

When I get home from a rough day instead of reaching for the cold chardonnay I run a HOT BATH. Has a similar effect, warm and relaxing.

I usually have a full bottle of wine once a week or so, and particularly after a physically or emotionally draining event.

Weirdly, I've been on Invermectin now for 3 days, and yesterday, when I normally would have a bottle, I had no inclination.

I've been a solid drinker for the last 15 years.

you addicts to these things I dont get u...

I mean, I love my weed, not gonna lie and i do get drunk...

But to get drunk, every day, every min of the day?

First of all, the annoyance of having to pee all the fucking time, how u deal w that? fucking hell...

Then if are too wasted then getting to the toilet is a journey/adventure

The really bad ones pee and shit themselves.

Is just so illogical for so many reasons... is like if you saw someone on the street beating themselves up... even if you dont know them you worry wtf is wrong w them?

Thats how I see you addicts, a stranger punching themselves up for no fucking reason, well I guess is self hatred...

Re: No Alcohol it's time
Something worth noting: Alcohol BLOCKS our true self/consciousness.

Please try to understand... we are pure consciousness ENTANGLED with the material body. As such, the body is ALWAYS making demands for it’s own pleasure (not survival) which may run opposite or contrary to our own desire.

NO ONE desires suffering, yet that is exactly what we are experiencing when we drink alcohol. Our desire is to be free, however the body’s desire is to enslave. Thus, we will never realize our TRUE desire if we are continually subduing our only hope of liberation from alcohol by knocking our conscious selves out of the way and empowering the body to keep us as subordinate addicts (slaves) in service to the flesh.

It’s an ugly and vicious cycle which many of the replies on this thread accurately reflect.

Grasping the concept that “we are not our bodies” is the foundation upon which a serious person can begin separating themselves from alcohol dependency. In time, their consciousness or “true self” will emerge victorious if they will dedicate themselves to ACTIONS which disallow the body from taking back command of the spirit-ship.

Those actions are too numerable to discuss here, but suffice to say: service to others is paramount. Service to our spouse and family (friends), service to others in general, and service to the HIGHER.

Freedom and Liberty are our birthright! (Yes?) The tyranny which threatens these sacred truths is not always as far away as a capitol city but often as near as the whiskey bottle which looms before us.

Remember that TV show Dr. G Medical Examiner that featured true stories about strange deaths and what the autopsy would show?
One show featured a guy that was getting married and made a promise if his girl would marry him he would give up the drink.
Story goes he got married and went on a honeymoon cruise and died in the bathtub a few days into the cruise.

Dr G determined he died from his cold turkey way of getting off the bottle.
He ended up in the tub trying to get warm and she explained what all goes on with ones body with alcohol withdrawal.

I don't remember the exact details but the bottom line was if you stop drinking cold turkey, it can kill you and should be done under Doctors care, I think Doctors have drugs that will help the body and keep one from dying.

I have had a buddy that did stop cold turkey but after seeing that show I would at least see a Doctor first and be honest about how much and often one has been drinking.

You can do it. I quit cold Turkey. I was tired of feeling awful all the time and never sleeping a whole night. Tired of being moody and making my family feel like second class humans. Tired of starting to be just like my father. Don’t know if you’re Christian, but I sincerely gave it over to Christ and quit cold Turkey in one attempt. It sucked. But I’m not even tempted anymore and I feel so much better. My friend couldn’t kick the bourbon, ended up signing off in the woods by himself. Fuck alcohol. Sold to us as this good time elixir... slowly creeps in and steals it all from you. I’ll pray for you brother, right this moment.
