But I am already drinking, drank 3 5.9 Bud Ice, now drinking 12 pack of Bud, done, now 6 pack of Natural Ice 5.9, it doesn't stop. I am fucked. All your support is appreciated, but& only an alcoholic would understand.

it's ok to not want to drink tomorrow and not know what beyond that ... you can admit that and feel that just to yourself and not do anything ... it doesn't mean anything other than you dont want to drink tomorrow ... just go with that ... do whatever

... here's a good one I just remembered! listen to AA speakers on youtube even if you are drinking! I did this for months before I quit ...

Here is Stevie Ray Vaughn ...

ETA: I am not endorsing AA ... i go hot and cold with AA ... it's very unregulated and decentralized and it can go any which way ... but it's ok to open your mind to whatever line of thinking is working ... none of it is as bad as being a drunk

Don’t do it man!!!!
Do something to take your mind off of it, go for a walk and take some slow deep breaths through your nose and slowing exhale through your mouth, the fresh air and breathing will relax your mind some.
Stay strong man!!!!

That's why you should go over to the online meetings and tell them about it :)

The alcoholics.

Trust me, they are there, and they love to talk.

You won't be able to get a word in.

My younger brother (55) was chronic drinker, he lost so much weight he look like a interment camp victim, I had to call the cops and ambulance to get him to the hospital 2 years ago. He stayed there for 3 weeks, then came back to his apartment and started drinking again. He then had a heart attack and they had to use the electric paddles on him.
Then he still drank, but he finally quit. It’s been a year he’s been sober, no AA, just scared of dying.
He got stints put in his heart some months back, still skinny as fuck since his appetite isn’t back to normal, but at least he is off the booze.

You’ve got to really want to quit and see how it’s so destructive.
Hope you find strength to quit the poison bro.

Well I slipped and failed lastnight, but I think it moved me in a good direction.
I really don't enjoy it like I once did, I mean the reason I have the cravings or sneak a bottle into a concert is to make the occasion more enjoyable. But really thinking about it last night it's not that fun. The cost seem to fair out weigh the reward. I feel like this is a step in the right direction last night would have been just as great without the booze.
Idk just some ramblings on what I'm thinking

This is exactly why I struggle with the idea of recommending AA to people, as much good as the meetings have done me.

AA is great.

But, the idea that you should never drink again is so daunting ... and it's kind of shaming when you look around and think "but that guy can?!?!?" ... even though it's a one day at a time situation ... a lifetime of never drinking is a scary prospect for a drinker.

Counting days is rewarding ... until it's not and you have to "start over".

Don't beat yourself up.

Other people have pointed out and it has to be said ... it's way easier to just quit than try to moderate. A lot of us quit with the idea of "indefinitely" ... some say "never" .. I could never say never again ... "indefinitely" was my take.

I promise, when you abstain, it will NOT feel rewarding for a long time. But there's this moment ... and you will never get there if you drink moderately ... there is a moment when you say "ha! look at that ... i never needed it at all!

Or "wow - I havent thought about booze for DAYS" ...

That does not happen naturally until you string a lot of days together. THAT feeling is what KEEPS you sober - nothing else, I'd say. THAT feeling of "Oh my god this is what people who don't drink feel like!" ... it's the best.

The fact that it takes a while is why people got to AA meetings and such.

There are other ways than abstinence ...

So, there's the naloxone route ... they give shots in rehab, pills out of rehab ... it short circuits the dopamine reward so if you do drink ... you WON'T get sick from a sip like they say ... you WILL feel all the sick and none of the enjoyment. I have a prescription .. never used it, though, so I can't recommend one way or the other ... but if you think that it's the habit that is the problem, it will take the enjoyment out of it. You can choose to take the pill or not, that day. It's hella expensive, as another posters pointed out ... it's like 10 bucks a pill without insurance coverage, but insurance treats it like a regular medicine.

In my opinion, it takes 3-4 months to really, mentally, realize that you are better off without it.

Like right now, I DO feel like I could have a few and be fine ... BUT it's been so long, I'd hate to screw up what I've got ... That's why AAs need to keep talking about it, talking it through ...

I guess that's why this is so difficult for all of us. It's a struggle for me. I never promised a soul I'd never drink again. Not even myself. If I can moderate it - why not? But then, the more I talk it through, the more I remember the messes and trouble and the fears ... I put it off another day. Not going to fuck it up TODAY. It's too much better this way, even though I think I can enjoy myself and keep it under control ... what if I can't?

Those feelings only come after a whole bunch of days strung together.

My man, upon exiting rehab, promised himself a YEAR. No matter what AA said, he told himself he'd stop for a year. he's well into the second year. he has it under control, and there's no reason to go back there. Now he says "when the kids are grown".

OP - you made a very wise observation when you said you are done. It sounds like you are.

Maybe talk wifey into dry February? There are a lot of people who just keep going after setting that deadline.

You'll find your path.

Routines, habits, and triggers are a major part of any behavior (good or bad). You have to break some and build some. James Clear has a good website that you might like. Breaking bad habits and building better ones becomes a skill with time.

Yes, it would be good to hear from OP. He brought my drinking level down to a few beers every other day or so. Which I am fine with.

(bold) how rough are you feeling? Hopefully not shakey rough?

taking CBD or CBD with Delta 8 thc in somewhat large quantities made me unable to physically stand alcohol anymore. I was drinking like a pint of whiskey 2 to 5 nights a week for last couple years before that never really drank. so maybe different than you but still, it brought me back to a better place.

Pray for your cravings to subside. You have to want this change, God will know if you don't really mean it.

It will work.

I have seen heroin addicts cured through prayer! They are not physically the same anymore and their faces even look different. They look... refreshed. It's hard to describe the healing that happens.

The devil will be in your ear through this entire process. Understand that he wants you to keep your addiction - to destroy your life. His goal is to keep us in bondage - to keep us from God. Don't listen to his urges that you can just have one drink. You cannot have one drink and you know this to be true! Don't believe his lies.

God bless you and I am praying for you right as soon as I click POST.
