Well that lasted about 5 minutes.

Unfortunately drinking makes you prolific writer.

Kind of like the master painters and musicians.

It might not be good for you but you can't deny it.

Cheers!

Master painter here.

I was half smashed a lot of the time when I painted this about 5 years ago...

I go back and forth on drinking, I take at least 6 months off every year. Drinking gets old, but so does being sober.

Although, if I had to pick one state, it would definitely be sober.

Enjoy it while it lasts. It doesn’t last long.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46642358

What doesn’t las long? I quit drinking 14-15 years ago and haven’t touched a drop since...and I drank 20+ pints of beer plus shots most nights. If you have willpower it will last.

I definitely can assure that everyone sane mentally can learn how to drink properly and in a safe way, but it’s a hard lesson to learn.

One thing is true, once you dislike alcohol it will never be the same, you won’t find the pleasures of the past, besides that we get old and our body can’t stand large amounts anymore.

you'll know when you need to quit drinking... your sleep will get worse... when you're a young buck you can drink a 12 pack and sleep for 12 hours... when you get too old to drink, 2 drinks and your pissing like a race horse at 2am, 4am, 6 am...

I quit in 1983. It was because it was a Jekyll and Hyde experience for me, and I didn’t know who was going to come out that night.

If you want to stop entirely, just remember rule number one: don’t get that shit in your mouth.

Re: No Alcohol it's time
My man got himself into a little trouble with a bender or two (long benders lol), and he quit a few months before I did.

His entire personality is changed. For the better. Instead of glimpses of awesomeness, I get full on awesomeness all the time. He was fine before, just a little drunk a lot of the time. Now he is superman.

It took him 4 weeks in rehab - for alcohol only - there were very few there for that, mostly way older ... he didn't even have weed in his system which was unusual, but he has lung issues, so alcohol was his only crutch.

His healing inspired me.

I was very functional, too, like you OP ... but like he says ... "It's easy to be a functional alcoholic" ...

Life has gotten so much better.

We laugh sober. It's so weird. The joy that bubbles up when you least expect it.

Everytime we go to an outing it's like how to sneak some booze in to make the evening relaxing , but sneaking in drinks really isnt relaxing. We went to a lighting event back before Christmas and my water bottle hidden.. wasent really that fun when your always trying to get a drink without ppl noticing

I used to do at least a 1.75 every other day OP. Something that immediately killed cravings was swishing coconut oil in my mouth for 15 minutes a day. It gives me immediate energy and my desire to drink is just gone. I think it has something to do with killing the yeast in my mouth or something.

Re: No Alcohol it's time
The anxiety issues that have presented themselves to me in the last year I believe are alcohol dependency related.

Hangovers when I was 20-27 were just hangovers, but somewhere in the last year they have turned into hangovers + anxiety ridden days where I have chest pain, heart palpitations, shakiness, jittery, insomnia...and when I take a few days off the anxiety rears up big time because I have basically been masking it with alcohol for so many years. I have chest pain and heart flutters so bad that I drove myself to the ER the first time these symptoms happened.

All heart tests later with zero issues, 28 years old and healthy.

Meh, maybe you. Not saying to drink but, I get up at 3am once to piss and I am a drinker. Not heavily anymore but you need to seek healing if your bladder is that weak. You have to stretch it.

Hard to do, but can be done. Quit 3 times. The 2 times I failed was thinking I could have a drink and control it after quitting. Doesn't work.

I have only been able to make 4 years by using varying nootropics and nicotine lozenges.

You do what you feel the need to. It took me a year to get to a few drinks a day, mostly because I don't like water, tea covfefe, or juice very much. Pine...keep a record of this. It's a good idea. In my instance I have found that the less I drink the angrier I get. Perhaps it is time to get angry? I dunno?

That voice in the back of my head would convince me that it’s ok to get some beer even though I woke up with my kidneys hurting from possible alcohol poisoning the night before. When we started having children I really had to stop. I drank bush NA for two months and then just stopped. It has been 29 years without alcohol. I don’t miss it.

Back in high school and low 20s I really never drank heavy.. was just a few beers with the weed, but i always kept up with friends and was the dd I assume I had a high tolerance from day one. I even remember one of may friends parents thanking me for always getting them home safe, even after a half bottle.
We would drink hard on the weekends..

Personally, I fell to my knees and prayed for help to quit the drinking.

Something wild happened.

Now having 2 beers makes me feel sick.

Once in a while I'll still try to have a couple, then remember the good effects I used to get from it vanished.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79955634

Interesting. That happened to me as well except for asking to quit. I just felt like I was dying in bed and had to completely stop all alcohol. It was either drink or die and I’m not ready for death just yet. The movie is still rolling.
It was like I suddenly became allergic to it.

My father used that excuse too! And it killed him!
But he was right. I started having sleep issues in my
50's too. It was BAD too. I would stay up thinking
for hours and would be so tired!

I had neve been a drinker ever! Never liked the stuff.
So, I did what others do, asked my doctor. Boy, did he
give me nothing to help with it! When I brought up
smoking weed like I had used to do so I could relax
even though I have been off it for years---he said,
'you would have to go to another doctor for that'.

So I did. Even though I take a few before bed, it's still
really hard to sleep. So I can relate to what your saying.
But alcohol is poison. It is. My father died of
congestive heart failure. He always drank beer
and whiskey. Found out he was still drinking in
whiskey in his 80's.

Just pray and be careful what you do brother.
Living has taught me one thing; nothing is certain...except salvation through Jesus Christ!

I had the same problem. Used alcohol to help me sleep. Found out I had sleep apnea. Had a little surgery and Cpap. Haven't drank since 2006 and sleep well.
