If I owned and displayed a US flag then American double agents would disguise themselves as foreign spies and torture me until I swore against my country and take the flag down. This plays into my own government deciding that they must do anything within their power to prevent me from looking patriotic and gaining sympathy from my own people. You cant declare someone a threat and invade their privacy until they make a threat and if they arent threatening well then you gotta agitate them like so in the right way to set them off.
