Anonymous Coward User ID: 76676317 United States 01/26/2021 05:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Critical thinking time: Quoting: OnTheFence Let's just say they do succeed from the U.S., Texas would now have to import a LOT of things (especially in the first several years until they build up missing industry themselves). - What will be this new country's laws? - What would taxes be like? - What would the price of electricity/gas/kerosene for heating and A/C be like? - What would be the price of fuel for vehicles be? Does the state produce enough on it's own to supply current and future population numbers? - Will the politicians and leader be just as corrupt (i.e., more of the same)? There are so many more questions about immigration policies, setting up a military (aside from National Guard) to protect from/fight other countries, and so much more we don't know about that is 'behind the scenes' of running a country. While the concept may be great in principle, it may end up being very very expensive for the citizens of Texas in the long run. So - don't rush to sell your house and pack your bags just yet. Let's find out all the fine details first. But I sincerely hope this does go through and they do all the right things that the U.S. as a whole hasn't done. It would be worth it to live with Liberty and morals. |

If you have a lot of money it may not be so bad but you still have the hail and tornadoes (it happened ever few months all year long in 2017, 2018, 2019 when I was there). Hail destroyed one of my cars and dented up the one I still have. The worst was black toxic mold in all the apartments I tried to rent. Very toxic shit that about killed me - and you won't know what it is unless your lucky and figure it out before you're dead from it. It was in the majority of central AC systems in rental apartments. And NO ACCOUNTABILITY - the property management companies will deny it and there's basically nothing you can do but break your lease and lose a couple thousand dollars They also had very low standards for tenants and I moved into another apartment that was off-gassing toxic chemicals from the paint - BAD. If you're wealthy enough to have your own house you may do OK there, now minimum about $300,000 for a small lower middle class home in a working class neighborhood. And half of Dallas was dangerous ghettos where you might find a tiny 1 bedroom apartment for $950. In an acceptable lower crime area expect to pay $1400 for a 1 bedroom rental. And the roads over the entire city, even on the highways it's full of car damaging bumps, potholes, roads falling apart, manholes in the middle of the road with a 2 inch drop to the manhole cover. If the hail doesn't destroy your car then roads will. And my car was towed while it parked legally in front of my apartment. The towing report LIED and said they towed my car from a couple blocks over...WHERE IT WASN'T EVEN PARKED. Sorry, but I am so happy I escaped the hell of Texas. The entire Dallas metro area fucking sucks. I would never go back . Only exception would be if they DID SECEDE. WORST PLACE I'VE EVER LIVED AND I'VE LIVED AROUND. And I forgot to add, minimum wage is $7.25 and hour. And ALL the jobs were LOW PAYING. And my job was horrible, went 7 years without a raise - like everyone else except the "favorites". And was terribly underpaid compared to other states for the same thing (IT). Sorry just my rant about Texas. It's not some paradise of freedom believe me, it's a hell hole. |

As much as I like Trump, if we make this happen, the first rule should be no one can be in political office who formerly served in the US government. We cut ties and we start new. Office holders must be state citizens, and must have been born here in state. No outsiders. ^ this.. I’m not from TX, but I support this... no ducking around on the definition of “natural born Texan” either... define that shit as clearly as possible... no interpretation needed. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 31760799 United States 01/26/2021 05:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We didn't allow that shit here in Texas. Texas turned down Dominion voting software -- and that's no conspiracy theory [link to www.washingtontimes.com (secure)] Yeah, but do you know WHY? I do. Dominion voting machines makes cheating damned near impossible. Each voter gets a VVPAT that shows him who his votes were cast for, he then deposits that ballot in a ballot box, and this paper ballot can later be compared with the machines results in a hand count audit. This is why Trump tried his level best to slime Dominion, he KNEW he had no chance of winning a legitimate election. The machines used in the majority of Texas precincts DO NOT produce a VVPAT and are IMPOSSIBLE to audit: [link to verifiedvoting.org (secure)] Audit Comprehensiveness The audit is only conducted in those precincts using electronic voting systems with auditable paper ballots or records. See, Texas Election Code Ann. §127.201(a). A 2018 election advisory provided greater clarity on which ballots are included as part of the “partial manual count.” While ballots cast on paperless direct recording electronic machines (DREs) are exempt from audit, the following ballots are included: early voting in person ballots, early voting by mail ballots, and election day ballots. DREs with a paper component are to be included in the audit, clarifying provisions from the original audit statute regarding DREs. See, Election Advisory No. 2018-30 and Texas Election Code Ann. §127.201(g). Although Texas law specifies a manual audit, in reality a very large number of precincts in Texas use direct recording electronic machines (DREs) without a voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT), meaning that no hand count of ballots or VVPATs can be conducted in those precincts. A manual count is to be conducted in at least 1% of election precincts, “or in three precincts, whichever is greater.” Additionally, the Secretary of State may select “any portion of any number of ballots from any precinct in which the electronic voting system was used” for auditing at their discretion. Transparency While candidates and their appointed representatives are allowed to observe, there are no provisions that mention their ability to verify ballot marks. While appointed observers are allowed, there is also no mention of the general public’s ability to attend, and no requirement for the time and location of the audit to be publicly announced. Audit Counting Method How do you think white republicans "win: in a state that is only 42 percent white? |
