Admission Act to make D.C. the 51st state of the USA (NBC) https://twitter.com/_/status/1354434868793507846 To make DC a state will take more than passing legislation, it will require an Amendment to the Constitution since the District of Columbia was set aside (in the Constitution) from the beginning of the nation as the seat of the federal government. It is not a territory nor can it be designated one. With only about 700,000 legal residents, Washington DC should not be granted two US Senators, which would give DC far more power, proportionally, than any other state in America. If Congress really wants to do what is right for DC and the nation, they would revert the majority of residential areas to Maryland, Virginia, or some combination of the two. Doing so would give representation that is now missing, without giving DC residents disproportional power. |
